Chapter 14: The Gossiping Ear

Ying Shu tapped on the upgrade options for other skills. She didn’t have time to glance at her phone; she quickly patted Xixi’s back and only after the child fell asleep again did she turn her attention back to the screen.
The wooden elemental ability she was upgrading remained a wooden elemental ability—there was no notification indicating it had advanced to level two, nor did it transform like the True Eye into the Clairvoyant Eye. Instead, the Thousand-Mile Ear upgraded into the Gossip Ear.
Ying Shu felt frustrated. "Oh no, why did I end up upgrading the skill I least wanted to? I've wasted a thousand merit points for nothing. What good is this Gossip Ear?"
She pressed her ear again to listen to the sounds outside, but all she heard was the same cacophony as before.
"Mommy."
Ying Shu heard Xixi’s voice and turned to look. The little girl’s eyes were still closed, and she wasn’t talking in her sleep, yet her voice was clear: "Mommy, Xixi misses you so much."
Tears welled at the corners of Xixi’s eyes.
Ying Shu captured this moment in a video and sent it to Su Xining.
Su Xining’s heart ached so deeply she could barely breathe.
After some time, Su Xining sent back a voice message, softly singing a song:
"Little treasure, quickly sleep, in dreams I’ll be with you, to laugh with you, to tire with you, always by your side..."
The moment the voice sounded, Xixi’s frown smoothed out, and a smile lifted the corners of her mouth: "Mommy."
That night was the best sleep Xixi had since Su Xining left.
Upon waking, she happily said to Ying Shu, "Angel sister, I dreamed of Mommy last night. She was singing to me."
"I want to dream of Mommy again tonight. I want Mommy to sing to me again."
Huh?
Ying Shu hadn’t seen her speak, yet she could hear her words. Could it be the Gossip Ear at work?
Without showing any sign, she dressed Xixi and took her to the bathroom to wash up.

Ying Yu and Ying Xing, who were eating breakfast, saw them come out and called out in unison, "Sister."
Ying Shu noticed their rosy complexions and smiled, asking, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Ying Yu nodded, "Yes, I slept straight through until morning. I haven’t felt any pain since."
"If my body keeps getting better, I can finally go to school. Hehe."
Ying Xing said, "Me too."
"Today, I finally have the energy to play games."
Ying Shu was speechless.
It was as if she could hear their inner thoughts.
"Ahhh, I messed my diaper! What do I do? I don’t have the guts to ask my eldest granddaughter to clean me up, but I can’t do it myself either. Damn it, you’re useless, all of you are useless."
Ying Shu felt both exasperated and heartbroken.
It seemed she needed to find another Blood Cleansing Pill or Repair Pill.
Then she heard a series of claps coming from downstairs.
Using her clairvoyant eye, she looked toward the second floor and saw Ying Li angrily slapping his paralyzed thigh and arm.
Ying Shu turned and went back to her room. When she came out again, she was carrying three skewers of grilled beef, which she handed to Ying Xing, Ying Yu, and Xixi.
Ying Xing’s eyes widened. "Sister, you went out early this morning to buy skewers?"
"Eat quickly. Afterward, help Grandpa bathe and change his diaper."
Ying Shu naturally didn’t tell them that the beef skewers were the ones she had drawn last night, which could increase strength.
"Wow, so delicious, better than any barbecue shop outside."

"Delicious, delicious, really delicious."
Ying Xing ate while saying, "I can’t move Grandpa by myself."
"You can do it," Ying Shu assured.
Ying Xing finished the skewers in a few bites and ran upstairs.
Hearing footsteps, Ying Li quickly put down his hands and looked up in surprise at Ying Xing’s entrance.
"Xing, your complexion looks so good today. Did you put on makeup?"
If it weren’t for the fact that his grandson was standing right in front of him, he would have thought he had activated a beauty filter.
"I slept well last night, so I look better."
Ying Xing sniffed and caught an odd smell in the air. "Grandpa, I’ll help you bathe."
Ying Li was reluctant to let his seriously ill grandson care for him. "You’re struggling just to walk. How can you help me? Go, go back to your room and rest. Don’t be a bother here."
Without a word, Ying Xing went over and helped him up, leaving both astonished.
They had expected it to be difficult, but he was lifted as if he weighed nothing more than a sheet of paper.
"Grandpa, why are you so light? Haven’t you eaten?"
"Xing, did you take a strength pill? You’re so strong."
The two spoke simultaneously, dumbfounded.
