[Assisted Cheng Shan in helping Cheng Jun improve his physical constitution. Reward: 1,000 merit points, 1,000 credits. Would the employee like to use the lottery for an upgrade?]

A flash of pleasant surprise crossed Ying Shu’s eyes. She hadn't expected additional rewards. She opened her personal profile:

[Name: Ying Shu]
[Age: 22]
[Merit: 3,700]
[Credits: 4,000] — (Lottery)
[Level: 1]
[Skills: Eye of Perspective (Upgradable), Wood Element (Upgradable), Space Element (Upgradable), Mental Element (Upgradable)]
[Treasure Chest (Upgradable)]

Ying Shu felt a headache coming on. Unable to decide which skill to upgrade, she opted for the lottery.

[Thanks for participating]
...
[Thanks for participating]

Five consecutive draws resulted in nothing but "Thanks for participating."

[Ding—]
[Congratulations on obtaining 10 bowls of snail rice noodles.]

Before Ying Shu could find any joy in this, her smile stiffened. "Are noodles really among the prizes? Does eating these turn one into an immortal?"

Ying Shu rolled her eyes and drew again.

[Thanks for participating]
[Ding—]
[Congratulations on obtaining 2 pieces of immortal booger.]

Black lines streaked across Ying Shu’s forehead.
Damn it.
Even boogers were prizes? Was the system bullying her?
She immediately opened the Treasure Chest to check the description of the booger. It read only: "This is a booger of considerable power."
"..."

[Thanks for participating]
[Thanks for participating]
[Ding—]
[Congratulations on obtaining 5 spiritual fruits.]

Spiritual fruits could restore a large amount of spiritual energy, while the previous snail noodles could restore vital energy and blood.

[Thanks for participating]

She drew "Thanks for participating" several more times until the twentieth draw...

[Ding—]
[Congratulations on obtaining the Ears of a Thousand Miles.]

Ying Shu blinked. The Ears of a Thousand Miles sounded similar to the Eye of Perspective; it must be a skill. She opened her profile, and sure enough, a new entry appeared under her skills. Literally interpreted, it meant she should be able to hear sounds from a thousand miles away.

Ying Shu tried to perk up her ears to listen. Immediately, a chaotic cacophony flooded her brain: arguing voices, the roar of traffic, snoring, children crying, and more. It was so loud it felt as if her head were about to explode. She instinctively stuffed her fingers into her ears, and the next second, the sounds vanished.

Ying Shu breathed a sigh of relief. "This skill doesn't seem very useful."

She continued the lottery. Out of the remaining twenty draws, fifteen were "Thanks for participating," while the others yielded: a manual for "Deadeye Aim," a manual for "Flash Step," 10 beef skewers, a set of golden playing cards for Landlord, and a ghost-beating club.

After learning "Deadeye Aim," her eyes acted like a built-in targeting system, ensuring every shot hit its mark—with a hundred-percent accuracy rate once maxed out. "Flash Step" increased one's speed; at the maximum level, the user would move like lightning, leaving no trace behind. Since these manuals required long periods of study to master, Ying Shu had no interest in them.

As for the beef skewers, they were for restoring a large amount of physical strength. The rest were magical artifacts. She didn’t yet know the correct way to use the playing cards, but the ghost-beating club was straightforward enough—you just used it to hit ghosts.

But were there ghosts in this world? Or were these meant for when she traveled to other worlds?

It was getting late, and Ying Shu didn't want to waste more time. She turned her mind back to which skill to upgrade. The Eye of Perspective had just been upgraded and she wasn't yet proficient enough with it, so there was no need to push it further. Her space for the Space Element was sufficient for now, she didn't know how to use the Mental Element, and the Ears of a Thousand Miles were too new to upgrade. That left only the Wood Element.

She felt the Wood Element was quite helpful; it could heal injuries, communicate with plants, accelerate plant growth, and even repair damaged flora.

Fine. She would upgrade that.

Ying Shu tapped the Wood Element. At that exact moment, Xixi, who was sleeping beside her, suddenly let out a terrified scream, flailing her limbs. One of her feet kicked Ying Shu’s wrist, causing her finger to slip...
