Chapter 95, Section 093: I Admire You

Ye Chen pushed open the door and walked in slowly. The office was bright and everything around reflected the light, a testament to its immaculate cleanliness. Without a speck of dust in sight. Ye Chen headed straight to Li Ruo and placed a thick project proposal in front of her. “President Li, this is a carefully crafted project plan by my sales team. It has a high feasibility.”
Li Ruo was momentarily stunned. She looked up at Ye Chen’s weary face, bloodshot eyes betraying his exhaustion. “You spent the entire afternoon on this?”
“Yes,” Ye Chen nodded. “Since I promised to deliver, then I must deliver.”
A resolute light flickered in Ye Chen’s eyes. Within this man’s heart burned an incomparable pride—part tenderness, part cold resolve, part arrogance. Li Ruo looked at him in disbelief, never expecting that he would actually produce a plan. Of course, its feasibility would still need approval from the board. Only once the board passed it would it be considered a success. But regardless of the outcome, just for Ye Chen’s attitude, Li Ruo had to reassess her opinion of him.
“Alright, you did it!” Li Ruo nodded. “I admire you.”
“Thank you,” Ye Chen replied with a nod. Then, from his pocket, he pulled out a resignation letter and pushed it toward Li Ruo. “President Li, this is my resignation. Starting tomorrow, I will no longer come to the office. Thank you for your care during this time, and Assistant Lin, thank you too.”
“Ah?!” Li Ruo and Lin Ziwen both widened their eyes in surprise.
“No, no, you can’t leave!” Li Ruo immediately shook her head. “Ye Chen, we agreed that you would only pack up and leave if you failed to complete your tasks. But you’ve completed them. You can’t just leave!”
“President Li, I apologize for the trouble I caused this morning,” Ye Chen said earnestly. “But I assure you, it was completely unintentional.”
Li Ruo’s face flushed red, her heart pounding, mind suddenly blank.
“Ye Chen, you’re doing well. Why do you want to leave?” Lin Ziwen said reluctantly. As long as Ye Chen was around, she felt a warmth and comfort. The thought of him leaving made her sad.
“There’s a misunderstanding between President Li and me that cannot be resolved,” Ye Chen said with a faint smile. “If I don’t leave, I’m afraid President Li will never be able to work in peace. So I think my departure is the best outcome.”
“Ziwen, you should go out first. I have something to discuss with Ye Chen,” Li Ruo glanced at Lin Ziwen.
Lin Ziwen nodded and quickly left. The office door closed behind her. Li Ruo looked up at Ye Chen without speaking, her gaze fixed on him. Ye Chen felt uneasy under her stare, his eyes darting around. Li Ruo said coldly, “You want to leave?”

“Yes,” Ye Chen nodded.
“I won’t allow you to leave!” Li Ruo snorted coldly, pulling out the slave contract from her drawer. “This is signed by you personally. From now on, you must obey my orders, right or wrong!”
“Li Ruo, why must you do this?” Ye Chen smiled faintly.
“I just won’t let you go. You will forever be my slave, obeying my commands, right or wrong. You belong only to me!” Li Ruo said, tears streaming from her eyes despite her efforts to hold back. She bit her lips almost to the point of breaking them, but the tears kept falling. She stared stubbornly at Ye Chen like a defiant little lion.
Ye Chen reached out and wiped her tears away. “I’m just an ordinary man, a mere passerby in your life. I don’t deserve your tears, nor do I deserve your attempts to hold me back.”
“But I’m willing to cry for you, willing to hold you back, willing to do all this for you!” Li Ruo seemed to have found an outlet for her emotions. She stood there stubbornly, tears flowing like a broken dam. At this moment, Ye Chen realized this twenty-three-year-old girl was still just a child. Her tears could not conceal the immature heart beneath her mature exterior.
Ye Chen was about to pull away and fetch some tissues to wipe her tears, but Li Ruo grabbed his hand, pressing her cheek against it. Seeing her tears fall like pear blossoms, Ye Chen’s heart ached. He cupped her delicate face in both hands. “Don’t cry. I... I’m willing to stay, isn’t that enough?”
“Really?” Li Ruo froze, her tears suddenly stopping. This shocked Ye Chen—could tears just stop so abruptly? Li Ruo took his hand and asked, “You really want to stay?”
“Yes,” Ye Chen smiled wryly. “I’m afraid if I keep going, I’ll make you cry until you have no tears left.”
“Hmph, you bad man!” Li Ruo sniffled, glaring at him fiercely. “Then hurry up and tear up that annoying resignation letter!”
“All right!” Ye Chen nodded quickly and decisively tore up the resignation letter.
Li Ruo immediately threw herself into Ye Chen’s arms, repeatedly patting his chest. “Bad guy, bad guy, you bad guy. You made me angry. Boo hoo…”
As she patted, her tears began flowing again, but these tears felt different from before. Ye Chen pulled her into his embrace, soothing her softly. “Okay, okay, don’t cry. Sometimes I really don’t understand you—how can you be such an icy queen by day and a mischievous little girl by night? Ah, you really are such a troublemaker!”
“Hmph!” Li Ruo snorted softly, pouting her rosy lips, tears still lingering in her eyes, her large pupils fixed on Ye Chen like a wronged child. Ye Chen gently brushed her small jade-like nose. Li Ruo pressed her face against his chest, murmuring, “It’s clearly you who made me angry, you bad man!”
Ye Chen sighed helplessly. “I thought you would hate me, but I didn’t expect this. Actually, I thought only by quitting could we end this, but...”

“You scoundrel, how dare you try to leave? Hmph, I still hold your leverage!” Li Ruo suddenly counted on her fingers. “First, your servitude contract is in my hands. If you dare to leave without permission, you will owe Tianya Group multiple times the penalty. Second, your slave contract is in my hands!”
She raised the slave contract with Ye Chen’s signature.
“Uh...” Ye Chen was momentarily stunned.
“Besides, you took away Zhang Dadan’s five million US dollars. If Zhang Dadan and Captain Zhang find out this is a matter of emotions—hee hee—then you’re in big trouble!” Li Ruo continued counting on her fingers, scolding Ye Chen. “Yesterday, you said Zhang Yantong was an incredibly ugly woman. If she finds out, it’ll be even worse for you!”
Ye Chen shivered all over, thinking to himself that this woman really held grudges fiercely. He would have to be careful, or he might get ruined by her at any moment. Trembling, Ye Chen said, “Alright, I’m scared of you.”
“Hmph, let’s see if you dare mention quitting again!” Li Ruo snorted.
“It’s late; it’s time to leave,” Ye Chen said, looking outside. The night was growing brighter as city lights illuminated the streets, neon signs flickering with strange brilliance.
Li Ruo nodded, taking the project proposal Ye Chen had submitted. “Ye Chen, you finished this plan in such a short time. How feasible do you think it is?”
“Eighty percent,” Ye Chen said confidently.
“Eighty percent?!” Li Ruo’s eyes widened. That piece of land had long been a thorn in the company’s side, making everyone uneasy and sleepless. If Ye Chen could really solve the problem with that land, he would be a great hero to the company. Li Ruo took a deep breath. “Alright, I will study your plan carefully tomorrow. If it’s truly feasible, I will propose it to the board. Once approved, Ye Chen, you will be the company’s great hero!”
“Before becoming a hero, can I at least have a decent meal?” Ye Chen sighed.
“Hee hee…” Li Ruo laughed softly, linking arms with Ye Chen as they left.
Outside, the city was ablaze with lights. Li Ruo and Ye Chen drove away from Tianya Group toward a restaurant. Li Ruo said she wanted to take him to a unique place to eat. In no time, they arrived at the foot of Xiangming Mountain. The night was noticeably darker here. The car stopped beside a lake. Li Ruo pointed to an island on the lake. “There, the restaurant is on that island. It’s a very special place. Hee hee, the environment is wonderful, and the dishes are delicious.”
“Heh, a place for the wealthy to enjoy,” Ye Chen smiled faintly. Li Ruo linked her arm with his again and they walked onto the lake’s bridge. The security guard helped park the car. Ye Chen looked at the beautiful night scenery, reluctant to leave. A gentle breeze blew by, as if the wind maiden herself was caressing him.
