Ye Chen sized up Lin Ziwen. Though this little girl lacked Li Ruo’s serene elegance, she had her own unique charm. Clad in the company’s uniform, she would easily stand out as a beauty in any crowd. Yet, walking beside Li Ruo, she inevitably became little more than a supporting role.

“Here’s your tea!” Lin Ziwen placed the cup on the coffee table. As she bent over, the white uniform revealed a tantalizing emptiness beneath, instantly drawing Ye Chen’s gaze. Her skin was fair, smooth as jade, and the white bra supported two proud peaks, with faint hints of pink buds visible. Lin Ziwen seemed to notice Ye Chen’s stare; she froze briefly, sensed something amiss, hurriedly covered her chest, and muttered quietly, “Pervert!”

“Uh…” Ye Chen was startled, then scratched his head in embarrassment, hastily changing the subject. “President Li, I wonder why you asked to see me?”

“Oh, I wanted to ask what you were doing yesterday afternoon,” Li Ruo’s eyes locked onto Ye Chen, searching for any sign of abnormality. The silhouette she saw yesterday seemed familiar, yet she couldn’t be certain.

“Yesterday afternoon? Wasn’t I at the office?” Ye Chen was puzzled by her sudden inquiry. Was this about what happened after work at South Gate Pedestrian Street? His eyes flickered as he grasped what Li Ruo wanted to know. He steadied himself, preparing to answer her questions.

“What about after work?” Li Ruo pressed.

“After work, of course I went home to rest!” Ye Chen deliberately looked confused, frowning as he said, “I don’t have any special hobbies, nor do I go out at night!”

“Think carefully—did you go to South Gate Pedestrian Street?” Li Ruo’s brows knitted, clearly skeptical.

“No, absolutely not!” Ye Chen shook his head firmly. He dared not admit to anything; who knew what trouble this woman might have gotten into? If something landed on him by accident, it would be a disaster. Although he was her bodyguard, that was merely his job—his personal life couldn’t be tangled up in her affairs. He hurriedly added, “Yesterday, after work, I went home to sleep. If you don’t believe me, my neighbor Er Gou can vouch for me. I can call him right now!”

He pulled out his phone, pretending with practiced ease.

“No need!” Li Ruo waved her hand quickly. “Alright, that’s all. Go back to work.”

“Okay!” Ye Chen nodded, slipped his phone in his pocket, and left without another word.

Lin Ziwen watched his retreating figure, curious; no matter how she looked, he didn’t resemble the heroic silhouette from the video. Li Ruo too stared after Ye Chen, shaking her head—she found nothing in his posture to confirm her suspicions.

“Perhaps it really isn’t him,” Li Ruo sighed. “Maybe it’s just my imagination.”

“Don’t lose hope, President Li. We can keep searching,” Lin Ziwen offered comfort.

“How? Where do we even start?” Li Ruo pursed her lips.

Yesterday, Li Ruo had been terrified—she had seen the man draw his gun and pull the trigger with ruthless determination. If not for the timely appearance of that mysterious figure, she might not be alive today. She desperately needed to find that shadow, to find that man.

“I’ve got it!” Lin Ziwen exclaimed.

“What did you think of?” Li Ruo was taken aback.

“President Li, we can ask the police for help! Yesterday, the police saw his face. If we find Zhang Yantong, we can uncover his real identity!”

“That’s right!” Li Ruo’s eyes lit up. Without hesitation, she dialed the police station, only to learn that Captain Zhang was out on duty and not in the office. Left with no choice, Li Ruo decided to contact them later regarding the mysterious silhouette. She quickly instructed Lin Ziwen, “Ziwen, get in touch with Director Liu and see what the city authorities think about yesterday’s incident!”

“Alright!” Lin Ziwen nodded.

After a phone call, the response remained unchanged—the city publicity office held the same stance as before. They were determined to clamp down on the so-called “motorcycle hero,” and Ye Chen had unwittingly gone from hero to accused murderer.

“President Li, Director Liu still says the same as yesterday,” Lin Ziwen frowned.

“Then help me find a lawyer. We must demand justice for that man!” Li Ruo bit her lip, her voice cold. “I refuse to believe society can simply invert right and wrong!”

“Understood!” Lin Ziwen nodded, about to leave when Li Ruo called out, “Find me the best!”

“Yes!” Lin Ziwen replied and hurried off.

Li Ruo stood before the floor-to-ceiling window in her office, arms folded across her chest. Her full bosom, her tall frame—standing nearly one meter seventy—her slender waist, and graceful figure made her the envy of women and the object of desire for men. With a furrowed brow, she gazed out at the dust-covered city of Jianghuai and sighed, “What must come will come. Since it’s coming, let it come fiercely—let the storm rage on!”

Ye Chen rode the elevator down, arriving at the fifteenth floor. Li Cheng immediately grabbed his arm and dragged him into the cleaning room.

“Hey, hey… Fatty, what are you doing? I don’t have any weird fetishes!” Ye Chen hastily folded his arms defensively and huddled in the corner, staring in horror as Fatty approached step by step.

“Kid, did you mess up?” Li Cheng looked at Ye Chen with icy eyes, cursing, “Damn it, you wouldn’t happen to be from the mountains, would you?”

“Impossible! I’m a model citizen, probably the best in all of China!” Ye Chen shook his head vigorously.

“Then why did the police come looking for you?” Li Cheng’s eyes widened.

“Huh?!” Ye Chen was stunned, speechless. “No way! But even if the police came, it doesn’t mean I did something wrong. Maybe they’re here to commend me—for catching that criminal yesterday, surely I deserve a Best Citizen Award!”

“Pah!” Li Cheng spat, angry. “Commend you? With an arrest warrant?”

Hiss!

Ye Chen was instantly dumbfounded, his face shifting through a rainbow of emotions. Li Cheng remained stone-faced. After a long pause, Ye Chen finally came to his senses, swallowed hard, and grabbed Li Cheng’s arm. “Fatty, do you trust me?”

“Why should I?” Li Cheng shot him an annoyed look, rubbing his fingers together. “Hell, the only thing I trust is this!”

“Damn, I’m broke and you’re still trying to extort me at a time like this?” Ye Chen pulled a hundred-yuan bill from his pocket, handed it over, and said, “This is my last one—tomorrow I won’t even have food!”

Swish!

Fatty’s fingers moved with the speed of a kung fu master, snatching the bill from Ye Chen’s hand and tucking it into his pocket. He blew on his fingertips and said, “Don’t worry. I already sent those cops away for you!”

“How did you do it?” Ye Chen was stunned. Damn, this guy had tricked him.

“How else? I told them you got fired for breaking the law first thing this morning!” Li Cheng grinned.

Bang!

Ye Chen’s head hit the wall—he nearly wished he was dead. Damn it, he’d just been swindled out of a hundred yuan by this guy. Being a hero was harder than he thought; his good deeds had turned to disaster. He was so depressed he almost wanted to jump off the fifteenth floor.

“Don’t move! Police!”

Just as they exited the cleaning room, several armed officers surrounded them, faces tense. The leader barked at Ye Chen, “Turn around, hands on the wall, or I have the right to shoot!”

Neither dared to resist—they quickly turned and pressed their hands to the wall, not daring to move.

“Damn it, Fatty, you really got me this time!” Ye Chen said with a bitter smile.

“Hell, how was I supposed to know those bastards would come back?” Li Cheng was equally frustrated.

“Isn’t it obvious? This has got to be Jin Lewei’s doing!” Ye Chen cursed. He suspected that after Li Cheng sent the police away, Jin Lewei immediately revealed the truth, causing the police to return.

Two officers approached, searching them, and found two Nepalese military knives on Ye Chen.

“Take him away!” the leader ordered.

“Yes, sir!”

Soon after, Ye Chen was cuffed and, under the watchful eyes of all the bodyguards and security on the fifteenth floor, escorted into the elevator and taken downstairs. As he left, Li Cheng looked at Ye Chen with genuine regret. “Don’t worry, I’ll avenge you!”

“Officer, can you tell me what I’m accused of?” Ye Chen asked in confusion.

“Manslaughter,” the leader’s voice was icy.

“That can’t be! I saved someone yesterday!” Ye Chen protested.

“Hmph, we’ll discuss it at the station,” the officer snapped.
