Chapter 21: The Brash Young Man

Ye Chen took the documents and glanced over them, finding nothing unusual. He asked curiously, "Is there a problem?"

"Heh, the owner of this hotpot restaurant is the notorious bully Zhang Bold from University Town!" Zhang Yantong smiled and said, "Someone reported them for using the hotpot restaurant to sell drugs, so I need you to be our informant!"

"How am I supposed to do that?" Ye Chen was stunned. "You’re not asking me to infiltrate their organization and dig up information for you, are you?"

"Of course not!" Zhang Yantong chuckled. "We’re not shooting a movie!"

"Then…?"

"It’s simple. Just accompany me to the hotpot restaurant and investigate. Since they’re dealing drugs, they must sell the goods. We can pretend to be buyers looking for drugs and approach them that way," she said with a mischievous laugh.

Ye Chen blinked. After spending nearly a year in the Golden Triangle, he knew all too well how dangerous drug dealers could be. Every one of them lived on the edge, and anyone who cut off their money-making routes was courting death. But Ye Chen wasn’t afraid; instead, he worried about the delicate beauty before him.

"Well?" Zhang Yantong saw Ye Chen was contemplating.

"No problem!" Ye Chen nodded, then raised a finger. "But after this cooperation, we’re even. Don’t come to me for anything else!"

"Deal!" Zhang Yantong blinked her dark eyes playfully.

After settling their agreement, they discussed when and how to approach the hotpot restaurant. Their adversaries were dangerous, and a single mistake could cost them their lives, so caution was essential. After half an hour of negotiations, they finally reached a consensus.

Leaving the police station, Ye Chen realized it was already afternoon. He drove his little Alto to Xinhai Apartments, cooked a packet of instant noodles to fill his stomach, and then lay down on the sofa, snoring away, seemingly forgetting the arrangement with Zhang Yantong.

Night fell, and Ye Chen was awakened by the ringing of his phone.

"Hello…" Ye Chen answered groggily.

"Brother Chen, help me… there are bad people!" On the other end, Liu Momo’s voice was anxious and frantic. She cried, "Brother Chen, someone is trying to take me. Please save me!"

Ye Chen was instantly jolted awake by her voice. He sprang off the sofa and rushed out, his expression tense. Liu Momo, whom he considered his little sister, was his only family in Jianghuai City. Without hesitation, he jumped into the Alto and sped toward Jianghuai University.

No doubt, some thugs were harassing the mother and daughter again.
