Ye Chen turned his head to look at Zhang Yantong. There was a pleading light in her eyes, and his heart softened. The strength he had mustered to resist immediately faded away, leaving him compliant under Zhang Yantong’s hands. Seeing this, she quickly snapped the handcuffs on and whispered in his ear, “Liu Junyuan won’t let this go. If the police don’t take proper action, he’ll definitely come after you again. For your safety, you must stay at the station for a couple of days!”

“Alright.” Seeing how earnest she was, Ye Chen nodded in agreement.

Thus, Ye Chen was placed in the detention center. As Zhang Yantong exited, Liu Junyuan hovered around her like an eager lapdog, grinning. “Captain Zhang, to thank you for saving my life today, I’d like to treat you to a late-night meal. What do you think?”

“Sorry, I have official duties to attend to.” Zhang Yantong barely glanced at him before heading out with two officers.

Just then, Chen, the attorney from Tianya Group, hurried in and happened to meet Zhang Yantong at the entrance. Panting, he said, “Captain Zhang, hello. I’m the legal representative from Tianya Group, here about Ye Chen’s case.”

“Hello, Attorney Chen!” Zhang Yantong quickly invited him inside.

“Ye Chen is our company’s business manager. I’m here to secure his release on bail.” Chen stated his purpose succinctly.

But before he could finish, the overweight officer at the station bellowed, “Who the hell are you? You think you can just bail someone out? I’m the victim here! I strongly object to Ye Chen’s release on bail!”

Attorney Chen was stunned. Recognizing Liu Junyuan standing to the side, he realized the situation was more complicated. As a lawyer, he knew he had to understand the local power dynamics—Liu Junyuan was the son of Liu Jiangqiu, deputy secretary of Jianghuai City. Not exactly a crime boss, but with his family’s backing, he’d been made head of the city’s urban management, strutting around with his team like he owned the place.

“Um…” Chen adjusted his glasses, looking at Zhang Yantong.

“Sorry, since the plaintiff objects, there will be no bail. Please return for now, Attorney Chen,” Zhang Yantong said helplessly.

Chen realized this case was a thorny one, involving the offspring of city officials. It wouldn’t be resolved quickly. He gathered what information he could about the incident, took photos for reference, and planned to study the case thoroughly back at his office.

When Li Ruo received a call from Lin Ziwen, she finally realized Ye Chen’s situation was far more complicated and fraught with trouble. Ye Chen had assaulted urban management officers—technically public servants—and Liu Junyuan was the deputy secretary’s son. Li Ruo grew anxious. When officials were involved, money alone might not smooth things over.

Bamboo Grove Community.

“I say we just go bust the boss out tonight!” Shrimp snorted coldly.

“Boss said there’s no rush!” Rat quickly shook his head.

“How can you not be worried?” Shrimp glared at Rat.

As the two argued, Li Tieniu, who lived in the same building, came over to their apartment. The door was ajar, and he could hear them bickering from down the hall. He rushed in and said, “Brothers, calm down. Let’s wait until noon tomorrow. If Ye Chen isn’t released by then, I’ll storm the police station myself to get him out. Sound good?”

“How could you go alone? You’ll have to bring us along!” Rat and Shrimp leapt up immediately.

Elsewhere, Liu Momo was beside herself with worry for Ye Chen. She dialed his number repeatedly, but no one ever answered. Restless, unable to sleep, she finally decided she would take a day off tomorrow to visit him at the police station.

Early the next morning, Zhang Yantong, as usual, arrived at the station bright and early. This time, however, she brought two breakfasts—one for herself, and one for Ye Chen. The detention center only provided two meals a day.

“Hey, lazybones, get up!” Zhang Yantong opened the cell door to find Ye Chen still sprawled on the bed.

Ye Chen rubbed his eyes. “What time is it?”

“Lazybones, it’s seven thirty!” Zhang Yantong scolded. “Still sleeping at this hour!”

“Oh.” Ye Chen nodded, feeling the pressure in his bladder. He reached down out of habit, and Zhang Yantong saw his morning erection tenting the blanket. With a snort of annoyance, she hurriedly retreated, leaving Ye Chen watching her leave with a smirk. “That little girl seems prettier this morning…”

Relieved, he washed up quickly.

“Here’s your breakfast,” Zhang Yantong placed the meal before him.

“Heh, I didn’t expect fresh pork wontons!” Ye Chen was surprised. Opening the box, he found not only wontons but also a carton of milk. Grinning, he asked, “Is the detention center breakfast always this good?”

“If you like it so much, want to stay a few more days?” Zhang Yantong shot him a look, then focused on her own food.

She wore her sharp police uniform as always—a blue shirt, the top two buttons undone. As she leaned forward to eat, Ye Chen’s gaze drifted to the gap, revealing a lacy white bra cradling two perfectly round treasures. Ye Chen’s throat tightened, and he couldn’t help but mutter, “So white, so round, so big…”

“Excuse me?” Zhang Yantong frowned.

“Ah?” Ye Chen snapped out of it, grinned. “I meant these wontons—so white, so round, so big…”

“Idiot, these won—” Zhang Yantong cut herself off, realizing what he’d meant. Her face flushed crimson as she glared at Ye Chen. “You pervert, you never think of anything decent!”

With that, she grabbed her breakfast and left the room. Behind her, Ye Chen called out with a laugh, “Captain Zhang, when are you coming by my place to pick up your lace panties?”

Bang—

Just then, Fang Qin, who’d just entered, smacked her head on the door. Wincing in pain, she stared at them in shock. She’d arrived early for work, only to overhear the tail end of their conversation—when Ye Chen said, “so white, so round, so big,” she was already stunned. She’d assumed the situation was resolved when Captain Zhang left, but Ye Chen’s last line left her so thunderstruck she walked right into the door.

“Idiot…” Zhang Yantong saw Fang Qin walk in and knew the misunderstanding had deepened. She tried to explain, “Fang Qin, don’t listen to him. There’s nothing between us. It’s just that, that day, when he went to the bathroom, he accidentally got some on my pants…”

At that, Fang Qin was even more dumbfounded.

“Hey, Fang Qin, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not what you think!” No matter how glib Zhang Yantong was, nothing she said could clear up the confusion. Fang Qin swallowed hard and waved her hands. “Captain Zhang, I get it, I get it. I completely understand.”

With that, Fang Qin stumbled into the office, leaving Zhang Yantong standing helpless in the corridor. Behind her, Ye Chen burst into unrestrained laughter, laughing until tears streamed down his face. Zhang Yantong glared at him. “Laugh all you want today. Tomorrow, I’ll make you cry!”

Later that morning, Li Ruo arrived at the police station with Lin Ziwen in tow.

When they arrived, Ye Chen was lounging in Zhang Yantong’s office. Not wanting him to feel mistreated, she’d let him move freely within her office, on the pretext of an interrogation. As soon as twenty-four hours passed, Ye Chen could be released.

“President Li, what brings you to the police station?” Fang Qin immediately recognized Li Ruo, who was accompanied by Lin Ziwen and several bodyguards in black. Li Ruo glanced at her and said, “I’m here to inquire about our company’s business manager, Ye Chen. I heard you’ve detained him?”

“Oh, let me explain what happened…” Fang Qin quickly recounted the events of the previous night.

“Hmph, I was there,” Li Ruo scoffed. “When those urban management officers bully ordinary citizens, you do nothing. But now, you turn around and bully those who stand up to them! It seems all those millions in taxes we pay your government every year are just feeding a pack of ingrates!”

“Um…” Fang Qin was instantly embarrassed. She knew full well what had happened last night. Normally, it would have been nothing unusual, but this time the incident had entangled several high-profile people: Liu Junyuan, the deputy secretary’s son, and Ye Chen, whose background was unclear but who had saved lives and done the police great service. Because of that, the police’s attitude toward Ye Chen was ambiguous. Now, with Li Ruo’s involvement, the case had grown even more complicated and contradictory.
