"The boss's wife?"

It seemed the entire company had already accepted Su Nian's status. Back when she had been wholeheartedly devoted to Lu Jinchuan, both he and those around him had assumed she was trying to force others to misunderstand their relationship, which was why he never spoke more than a word to her at the office.

Yet, when it came to Su Nian, he personally saw to it that her name was cleared.

Wen Ying didn't respond to Mr. Jiang's comment, but Shen Jiaxiao could no longer hold back. "But I heard that your Mr. Lu has been married for a long time?"

Mr. Jiang froze, taking a moment before replying, "That must be a rumor. Earlier, when Miss Su was rumored to be a home-wrecker, the PR department at Lansheng didn't handle it well, so Mr. Lu stepped in to clarify things himself. He publicly defended her, insisting she was innocent. How could he possibly have a wife?"

Wouldn't that be a slap in the face to his wife? Who would completely disregard their own spouse like that? Therefore, it had to be a rumor.

Wen Ying lowered her eyes. So, it was him who had stepped in to clarify things back then. He hadn't wanted Su Nian to suffer even the slightest grievance. But as for her, his wife, she could suffer; she could swallow her bitterness in silence. He had simply been certain that she lacked the standing and the backbone to make a scene.

Shen Jiaxiao was fuming. "If your Mr. Lu loves Miss Su so much, why aren't they married yet? Is he unable to?"

Mr. Jiang smiled and opened up, "You can tell, Miss Su is a career-driven woman, not the type to be a submissive housewife. I've heard it's because Miss Su isn't ready for that step yet."

Wen Ying thought that made sense. If Lu Jinchuan cared for Su Nian that much, and if Su Nian wanted to marry, Lu Jinchuan would have dealt with her—his wife—decisively. He wouldn't have left it to her to initiate the divorce as things stood now.

Shen Jiaxiao only felt a pang of heartache for Wen Ying, looking at her with concern.

Wen Ying gently squeezed Shen Jiaxiao's hand. She shook her head calmly. "It doesn't matter anymore."

The divorce papers were already signed, anyway. Once the final procedure was complete, she and Lu Jinchuan would be strangers.

Even though Shen Jiaxiao had the urge to publicly expose Su Nian as a mistress right there, she had to consider Wen Ying's position. She scratched her head, truly in no mood to continue the inspection. "I'll go get the car. Once you're done, come down to the main entrance, and we'll go home." She was afraid she might have a heart attack if she stayed any longer.

Wen Ying nodded, her expression cold and indifferent. "Alright."

After the materials were finalized, Mr. Jiang wanted Wen Ying to go over the details with Su Nian, but she claimed she was busy with company matters and left. As she waited for the elevator, she stepped inside, only to find herself unexpectedly face-to-face with Lu Jinchuan.

He stood tall and imposing, his deep eyes capturing her for a moment before he indifferently looked away. To anyone watching, there was no sign that they had ever been husband and wife. He truly had the ability to distance himself etched into his very bones.

Wen Ying didn't shy away; she walked in calmly and stood behind him. She hadn't expected Lu Jinchuan to come to Tengyang. But then, she thought, Su Nian was here—he had clearly come for her.

Lu Jinchuan seemed to have no desire to converse with Wen Ying; he was busy chatting on his phone. As Wen Ying stood behind him, looking at the floor indicator, she inadvertently caught a glimpse of his screen.

A contact saved as "BB" had sent him a message: "Just a bit of a headache, no need to come over. I probably just got tired after staying up all night with you."

Wen Ying hurriedly looked away.

How could she not understand that "BB" was a term of endearment? And what could they have been doing staying up all night together? Their relationship seemed far more intimate than she had ever imagined.

"Is your illness better?"

Suddenly, Lu Jinchuan put his phone away, his voice calm and unhurried as he spoke. He was addressing Wen Ying.

She was surprised. Lu Jinchuan was looking at her from the side, his dark eyes devoid of ripples, as if it were just a casual inquiry. So, he still remembered that she had fainted from a fever. And yet, this sudden question was nothing more than him remembering her illness only after Su Nian mentioned her own headache. Amidst his worry for Su Nian, he had simply asked her as an afterthought.

At other times, he remained entirely indifferent to her affairs. Only Su Nian mattered. There was no genuine concern in his attitude toward her.

"I'm better," Wen Ying replied calmly.

"Mm, that's good." Lu Jinchuan's voice was cold, though this time, he cast a lingering glance at her. He seemed surprised that Wen Ying didn't use this as an opportunity to make a scene.

His gaze was completely unabashed. Wen Ying frowned. "Does Mr. Lu have anything else to say?"

"Aren't you going to call me 'husband' anymore?"
