Chapter 17: Do You Suspect Me of Secretly Photographing You?
She clenched her fingers tightly and spoke calmly, “No one wants to get a stye, just so everyone knows.”
She didn’t want to explain, nor did she think it necessary.
Lu Jinchuan stared at her deeply, his expression unreadable.
“Making excuses again. If I hadn’t caught you, you definitely wouldn’t have admitted it,” Lu Siran scolded her with a vexed look. “It’s so annoying. This is a guesthouse; everything—food, clothing, lodging, and transportation—is taken care of. Why did you follow us up here? We don’t need you.”
For the past three years, on weekends or holidays, she often went to her brother’s place to avoid her mother’s nagging. Wen Ying took care of her like a housekeeper.
Used to that routine, Lu Siran instinctively thought Wen Ying was using the guise of caregiving to stir up trouble.
“What’s going on here?” Jiang Qian and Zhou Yu appeared one after another.
Zhou Yu glanced at the isolated Wen Ying and smiled, “President Lu, why the solemn atmosphere?”
Though young, Lu Siran was perceptive enough to know Zhou Yu was Wen Ying’s nominal brother. She pursed her lips but said nothing.
But Wen Ying understood that Zhou Yu was offering a way out, trying to let the matter drop.
Su Nian didn’t express any opinion and simply looked toward Jiang Qian. “Let’s go eat.”
Jiang Qian, uninterested in the drama, left with Su Nian.
Zhou Yu smiled lazily, oblivious to Wen Ying’s embarrassment. “President Lu, handle your family matters first. I’m going to accompany my girlfriend.”
He didn’t mind Lu Jinchuan parading a mistress around; he remained an outsider, uninvolved.
Lu Siran was about to say something more when Lu Jinchuan gave her a cold glance. The little girl immediately shrank her neck and ran off.
Wen Ying’s gaze followed Zhou Yu’s retreating figure for a few moments.
“What are you looking at?” Lu Jinchuan’s indifferent tone snapped Wen Ying back to reality. She looked up, meeting his deep, inscrutable eyes.
There was no emotion in his pupils. “Want to talk?”
“I wasn’t spying,” Wen Ying said calmly.
“Hm, give me your phone.” He seemed to believe her.
Wen Ying frowned. “What for?”
Lu Jinchuan’s eyes scanned briefly as he snatched the phone from her hand, his long fingers tapping the camera app and opening the photo album.
Wen Ying’s expression finally changed, her breath trembling with shock. “You suspect I was secretly taking photos of you?”
Was he insulting her?
He glanced through the album. Seeing nothing inappropriate, he returned the phone to Wen Ying.
His dark eyes were cold and profound, his tone cuttingly indifferent, leaving her utterly ashamed. “Three years ago, you even invited reporters to shoot those scenes with me in bed. What’s something Mrs. Lu couldn’t do?”
Wen Ying understood that Lu Jinchuan was still bitter over what happened three years ago.
He always believed it was her shamelessness that led her to bed him while he was drunk, that she called reporters to expose the affair, and that she shamelessly forced the marriage.
No matter how much she explained, it was weak and powerless.
She had no evidence to convince him.
“Aren’t you more afraid that your affair with Su Nian will become more public?” she gradually calmed down.
Lu Jinchuan sneered at her. “She’s different. Exposing those kinds of photos would damage her reputation.”
His meaning was clear: the difference between her and Su Nian.
She was despicable for hiring reporters to film bed scenes, while he would protect Su Nian’s honor!
Lu Jinchuan wasn’t interested in hearing Wen Ying’s defense. He glanced at her coldly and turned away.
Wen Ying smiled bitterly.
Passing a corner, she saw Zhou Yu leaning against the wall, smoking.
She had no idea how much he had overheard.
He looked up at her. “Feeling wronged?”
Wen Ying was taken aback, suddenly feeling as if the Zhou Yu she once knew had returned.
Zhou Yu flicked the ash from his cigarette. After being released from prison, this was the first time he casually chatted with her. “I’ve taken over the branch company of Jiang Qian’s father and have been coordinating projects with Lu Jinchuan’s company lately.”
“So?” Wen Ying asked, surprisingly calm.
Zhou Yu looked at her and sensed a change. She used to be obedient and gentle, but now…
She was sharp-edged and aggressive.
“Don’t make trouble for him,” he said casually.
