Chapter 4: Presenting the Divorce Agreement!
Wen Ying froze.
She pressed her pale lips together tightly. "Is this Lu Jinchuan's decision?"
"Yes."
Zhao Ke actually disliked Wen Ying quite a bit. Although she was diligent and capable at work, she had used sordid means to crawl into his bed and force a marriage. He found such a woman contemptible.
"Mr. Lu said you are not allowed to go anywhere today until the public opinion settles down," Zhao Ke continued. "If you cannot manage that, Lansheng does not keep idle hands!"
Even though Wen Ying understood that Lu Jinchuan held no place for her in his heart, she had not expected this to happen right as they were on the verge of divorce. He was forcing her, his legal wife, to handle the public fallout for his mistress—a fallout based on facts that were clearly true.
A sharp pain surged into her lungs, and a intense cramp twisted in her abdomen. She gripped the desk to hide her discomfort, glancing mockingly at her ID badge lying on the surface. She picked it up and wound the lanyard around it.
"Lansheng indeed does not keep idle hands, but this is a task I cannot handle," she said calmly, tossing the badge aside. "I resign."
She had submitted her resignation the night before, at the same time she prepared the divorce agreement. Perhaps the processing was slow, and it hadn't reached Lu Jinchuan’s desk yet. But as for this task regarding Su Nian, she would not take it on.
"Do not come to me for anything regarding Su Nian from now on. Please have Mr. Lu assign someone else. Lansheng is a large company; it certainly doesn't need me!"
Zhao Ke was stunned for a moment. Wen Ying was resigning?
Did she really have the heart to give up a job that allowed her to be near Mr. Lu? It was probably just another tactic to play hard to get and pique his interest.
Zhao Ke returned to the top floor. Lu Jinchuan’s schedule was packed; he was preparing to meet with Mr. Chen of Donglin Technology.
"Mr. Lu, this is the Donglin contract. Please take a look."
Lu Jinchuan lowered his eyes to scan the document. "How is the Public Relations Department handling Niannian's situation?"
Zhao Ke hesitated. "Manager Wen, she..."
"Speak."
"Manager Wen said she cannot handle this matter. She has submitted her resignation and requested that you no longer approach her regarding Miss Su."
Lu Jinchuan stopped flipping through the contract and looked up, his deep eyes devoid of warmth. "Did she submit it to the company today?"
"Manager Wen was originally on leave today. I called her in temporarily. HR said she submitted it yesterday."
"On leave?" Lu Jinchuan didn't care about the resignation, but he questioned the leave.
Zhao Ke couldn't fathom his boss's thoughts. He replied hesitantly, "There must have been something very important; after all, Manager Wen hasn't taken a day off in three years."
Lu Jinchuan was aware of that. Wen Ying appeared cold and detached, keeping her distance from everyone, but in reality, she was extremely diligent and serious about people, matters, and her work. She was clever and calculating; otherwise, she wouldn't have climbed to the position of Public Relations Manager in less than two years.
For her to take leave and resign—it was out of the ordinary.
Lu Jinchuan lowered his gaze, lost in thought. Then, his expression turned icy, and he stood up abruptly.
"The resignation can be approved, but only after she handles Niannian's situation. If the scandal spreads throughout the industry because she failed, let her deal with the consequences."
Zhao Ke was bewildered. Logically, Mr. Lu should have been eager for Wen Ying to leave Lansheng; why was he refusing to let her go now? He couldn't make sense of it.
"By the way, Mr. Lu, I have a document here that Manager Wen sent over..."
Lu Jinchuan was already on a phone call. Hearing Zhao Ke, he waved his hand without looking back. "The usual."
The "usual" meant that all of Wen Ying’s requests were shelved. In the past, she had sent him clothes, ties, cufflinks, and handmade gifts. Since Lansheng’s key tech project involved drones, she had even hand-crafted a model to try to please him. Mr. Lu hadn't even glanced at them; they were all left to collect dust in a cabinet in his office that was rarely opened. Only when Mr. Lu had an emergency need would the items in that cabinet be taken out for use.
Zhao Ke, familiar with the drill, tossed the unopened file into the cabinet. All of Wen Ying's schemes—were they not just a waste of effort?
