Chapter Forty-Two: Shock! In Full View of the Public
"Already attending parties adorned with Earth's luxury goods—ah, woman, your name is vanity."
"At the banquet, because she wore luxuries unattainable by others, Jenny outshone all the rest. Yet after the excitement faded, what remained was endless emptiness..."
"That's why her true desire is for a man worthy of her, while her urge to buy is extremely low."
"So, if I can let her experience excitement once more, rekindling her desire to buy, this business will be sealed."
Qin Jing murmured to himself, his eyes drifting to the uppermost part of the mirror, where the prompt had just appeared: three chances to try out luxury items.
Seeing this, a plan began to form in Qin Jing’s mind.
"Congratulations, Jenny, you've become the center of attention at the banquet; your beauty is unmatched."
Bored amidst the gathering, Jenny Theo suddenly heard a familiar voice in her ear and froze, scanning her surroundings but finding no trace of the speaker.
"No need to look for me. I am speaking to your mind from Earth—just a common little trick."
Jenny Theo’s lips twitched slightly. To think that such a cross-time-and-space connection could be called a ‘little trick’?
"Jenny, even I hadn’t expected this platinum necklace to suit you so perfectly. It’s as if it were made just for you..."
"And that Chanel handbag—the models on Earth could never do it justice. Only you are worthy of it. No, it merely adds a touch more color to your beauty."
"May I have the honor of a kiss on the cheek? You’re so beautiful, I can barely contain myself."
Qin Jing’s endless stream of praise echoed in her ears, and Jenny Theo’s lips curled into a slight smile. The mysterious Earth Summoner—though Earth had only just begun its spiritual awakening and he was not yet a formidable force—his status was undeniably valuable, far surpassing that bumpkin Dika.
"You're too kind. I’m surprised by your sudden contact," Jenny replied in her heart, even imagining herself in a princess gown, offering him a gentle curtsey.
She was the second daughter of the Theo family, and unlike her cousin Jessica, she delighted in socializing and was known as a social butterfly within her circle. Her earlier ennui was merely fleeting; with Qin Jing’s mysterious appearance, a surge of competitive spirit welled up inside her.
If she could make this mysterious Summoner fall under her spell, it would be far more satisfying than any banquet. She remembered that last time, the Summoner had already shown considerable interest in her.
Back then, Qin Jing hadn’t bothered to hide his admiration for Jenny’s beauty—partly to conceal his true intentions, and partly because she truly was beautiful. In fact, she had even "cured" the male issues he’d suffered due to Jessica.
"Thinking of you, I seem to have broken through another realm. From now on, perhaps I can speak with you across space and time more often."
"Now, back to business. As a token of our renewed acquaintance, I have a gift for you, the beautiful Miss Jenny Theo."
As Qin Jing spoke, Jenny suddenly felt something heavy in her palm. In the next instant, a finely crafted gift box had appeared in her hand.
She opened it to find a delicate ornament made of tiny diamonds.
"It’s so beautiful, Jenny."
"How could you have hidden such a gorgeous thing until now? Jenny, you’re too good at keeping secrets."
"Put it on, let us see!"
As the new item appeared in Jenny’s hand, the surrounding guests gasped in admiration. None seemed surprised by its sudden appearance; in this mythic world, magical spatial gear was commonplace.
Only Jenny knew the truth: this trinket had been sent directly from the Earth era by Qin Jing. Recently, after acquiring the Tiffany platinum necklace, she had researched Earth’s luxuries and recognized this ornament as a Chanel piece—a renowned luxury brand.
A wave of indescribable joy coursed through her. The flattery of those around her made the banquet interesting once more. Without hesitation, she took the ornament from the box and put it on.
The chorus of compliments grew louder; many women looked at her with unconcealed envy, while the men could not hide their amazement.
Jenny felt utterly at ease. She never denied her vanity; even if she sometimes tired of these banquets, a new thrill would quickly draw her back in.
"How did you send this directly over?"
In her mind, Jenny questioned Qin Jing curiously.
"It's nothing more than another small trick. As long as it pleases the beautiful Princess Jenny, I am content," Qin Jing replied, making Jenny feel all the more appreciated. She thought to herself: he does like me, just like Dika, and now he's trying to win my heart.
His wondrous abilities delighted Jenny. She felt that maintaining an ambiguous relationship with Qin Jing—occasionally receiving such luxuries—might be a fine arrangement.
"Thank you, but I won’t accept your gift for nothing. What do you want in return? The remaining volumes of The Six Strategies?"
Jenny replied privately, a bit anxious about their last transaction, in which she hadn’t fully kept her promise—the Six Strategies she’d provided was incomplete.
"No, no, this is just a little present for Miss Jenny; friends shouldn’t expect rewards from one another."
Qin Jing refused without hesitation. Of course, he desperately needed the lost volumes of The Six Strategies, but he couldn’t show it. In business, the key is never to let the other side grasp your needs.
I, on the other hand, have already grasped the client’s desires. Watching in the mirror as Jenny Theo’s purchasing desire gradually rose to "moderate," Qin Jing could hardly contain his joy.
"Thank you. Even if you don’t ask for anything in return, I’m not stingy. I’ll send you some magic stones as a token of appreciation."
Jenny Theo tilted her chin with a haughty air. No one at the party found this odd; she was, after all, a proud princess by nature.
"Very well. If you insist, I will accept your magic stones and select an item of equivalent value for you in trade."
As Qin Jing’s words faded in her mind, Jenny suddenly felt a refreshing coolness...
What is this? She instinctively moved to cover herself, only to realize that her clothes had somehow changed without her noticing.
Her stiff European medieval lady’s dress had been replaced by a modern suit—Chanel’s iconic black-and-white minimalist luxury ensemble!
White on the left, black on the right—a long, sleeveless dress, with asymmetrical white only covering a small portion of the left chest and shoulder, while most of the right was pure black. The smooth, unknown fabric made the outfit strikingly simple yet incredibly impactful. Paired with Jenny Theo’s exquisite features and stunning figure, she seemed at that moment like a bewitching enchantress, captivating every eye at the gathering.
