Chapter 25: The Fate of the Devoted Admirer
"Mind your own business, Zhang Cheng. Did you really think that just because you gave me a platinum necklace, you could yell at me like that?" Xiaofen frowned and coldly reprimanded Zhang Cheng.
"I did all this for you..."
As Xiaofen's voice rose, Zhang Cheng instantly softened. Yet before he could finish, Xiaofen interrupted him, "Enough. Don't say another word. I never asked you to do anything for me—everything was your choice. Besides, I have a boyfriend now. I hope you understand that."
"What?" Zhang Cheng was stunned.
"My boyfriend is John Zhang. You should know that, right? We may have been together before, but that's over now, isn't it?"
In Xiaofen's eyes, Zhang Cheng was of no further value, so she cut things off with sharp finality.
"You... how could you..." Zhang Cheng pointed at Xiaofen, his lips trembling so much he could barely speak.
Xiaofen merely gazed back at him coldly, showing not the slightest sign of backing down.
"Serves him right, really. Bootlickers like that never meet a good end."
"Zhang Cheng, not only did he lose the girl, he lost everything," Qin Jing watched the scene unfold with icy detachment, feeling no urge to help Zhang Cheng at all. What a joke—ever since Zhang Cheng insisted on a new platinum necklace, he'd made himself Qin Jing's enemy. Not that the fool seemed to realize it.
"What are you all gawking at? A bunch of idiots, always giving money to Qin Jing. Look at me—I can make money off him, and you still have the nerve to laugh at me?" Xiaofen, unable to bear the murmured comments around her, snorted coldly and challenged the surrounding crowd.
"Oh? Is that so? You did take money from me, but 'making money' isn't the right term—'extortion' is more accurate," Qin Jing replied, a faint smile playing at his lips. "All of this was orchestrated by John Zhang, wasn't it? What I can't figure out is, I've never met John Zhang—so why is he so hostile toward me?"
Xiaofen's expression changed; she hadn't expected Qin Jing to know about her boyfriend.
But so what? The pretense was already shattered, so Xiaofen didn't mind saying it outright. She looked at Qin Jing with a mocking smile. "No wonder you took Zhang Cheng in. You're just like him. There's a lot you don't know—when Chen Hua went to Hu Chaoyang's party, it was my John Zhang who set it up."
Yet Qin Jing's face betrayed no reaction. He only nodded in sudden understanding. "Ah, that explains it. So John Zhang is just Hu Chaoyang's lackey."
"You..." Xiaofen pointed at Qin Jing, about to speak.
At that moment—
"Qin, what's going on here?"
Two police officers entered, the one in front directing the question to Qin Jing.
Qin Jing pointed at Xiaofen and said calmly, "There's been an extortion attempt here. I suspect it's premeditated fraud."
As he spoke, Qin Jing gestured at the security camera in the corner and recounted what had just happened. In the recycling business, you naturally needed surveillance against trouble. In fact, in his first year open, Qin Jing had encountered similar incidents, though always impulsive and never as malicious as Xiaofen. This time, forewarned by his GDP system, he had discerned her true intent.
