Chapter 13: Enjoying Food and Drink in the Hidden Treasury Within the Dimension
Lin Xiaodou was still unaware that she had become the target of someone's attention. Even if she knew, she wouldn't be afraid. She always acted under the guise of the Masked Woman, and with her spatial cheat tool, any trace would vanish without a trace. Besides, her unmatched strength made her untouchable; no one could do anything to her.
As for those ruined scoundrels, they got what they deserved. They were nothing more than vile bullies, who, emboldened by a little power, grew reckless—robbing, beating, and even tormenting girls. Rather than letting such beasts continue to harm others, she preferred to deliver justice herself.
Strangely, Lin Xiaodou, who had always abided by the law in the modern world, found herself growing far more hot-tempered after arriving in the parallel 1970s. It was as if she were no longer bound by heaven or earth, able to forge her own path, free and unrestrained. She relished this new self—liberated, bold, and ruthless toward scum!
...
Upon returning home, Lin Xiaodou locked her door and entered her space. Her morning haul from the recycling station had been disappointing, leaving her with a sense of regret. But later, after a black market scuffle in the woods, she seized a cartload of supplies, more than making up for her earlier loss. Her purpose for entering the space now was to inspect what treasures she had acquired.
With a sweep of her hand, the black cloth covering the cart was flung aside. Lin Xiaodou’s eyes widened in astonishment. Before her sat a huge box filled with gleaming golden ingots. Mimicking a scene from television, she picked one up and bit it gently—leaving a clear tooth mark. High-purity gold is soft, so this must be real.
Cradling a handful of gold ingots, Lin Xiaodou felt a surge of delight. Her stash had grown once again—how marvelous! Beside the box of gold were two more boxes, each filled with various pieces of jewelry: gold bracelets, silver necklaces, sapphires, emeralds, and so forth, all sparkling brilliantly. These exquisite ornaments were worth a fortune, likely in the hundreds of millions. Lin Xiaodou’s eyes were shining like stars.
Beyond the jewelry, the cart held several large baskets. Three baskets contained porcelain. Lin Xiaodou hurried to fetch reference books, carefully comparing each piece. She found treasures—Ru ware, blue-and-white porcelain, revolving bottles, chicken cup—all rare relics from various dynasties. Any one of them could fetch astronomical sums in the future, rivaling properties in Beijing.
Two other baskets brimmed with ancient books and calligraphy, each of extraordinary value. Lin Xiaodou took stock of everything.
Altogether, there were over two hundred items on the cart. If sold in later times, their combined value would easily exceed ten billion! Another ten billion fortune! Lin Xiaodou embraced this unexpected wealth.
But it wasn’t enough. The 1970s were a golden age of both challenge and opportunity. Having encountered such riches, it would be unlike her not to seize the moment. Lin Xiaodou did not have grand ambitions; she simply wished, once the era stabilized, to become a leisurely landlady, living off her rental properties. To achieve this, she needed to buy many houses, yet currently she owned none, and her funds amounted to just the three hundred yuan she earned selling her job that morning.
To become a prosperous landlady, she needed to earn much more to buy more properties. So, in the coming days, she planned to try her luck on the black market. Anyway, the Lin family members were still in the hospital and wouldn’t be bothering her for a while.
After stowing away her seized goods, Lin Xiaodou began preparing lunch. With such a fruitful day, she decided to treat herself to something delicious. She wandered through the stone house stocked with food and finally settled on spicy skewers.
Preparing skewers was a bit tedious, requiring her to thread each piece of food by hand. There were ready-made frozen skewers in the freezer, but Lin Xiaodou, not pressed for time and craving freshness, opted to make her own. She selected her favorite vegetables: potatoes, white radish, lettuce stalks, enoki mushrooms, wood ear fungus. Then she picked meats and seafood: chicken feet, duck blood, fish balls, tofu skin, beef balls, pork skewers, squid, prawns, scallops—five skewers of each.
Threading and cooking all the ingredients took nearly an hour. Once done, she began mixing the dipping sauce: mashed garlic, white sesame, soy sauce, vinegar, chili powder—all stirred together. Next came the broth, the heart of spicy skewers. She heated oil in the pot, added prepared peppercorns, green onions, ginger, garlic, and hot pot base, sautéed until fragrant, then poured in water, salt, and sugar, simmering until thick and aromatic.
With the broth ready, she plunged the pre-cooked skewers in to soak. Once the flavors melded, she took them out, dipped them in sauce, and began to eat.
The rich aroma filled the room, making Lin Xiaodou’s mouth water. She grabbed an enoki mushroom skewer and dunked it in the broth, letting it cook for ten seconds, then eagerly popped it into her mouth. The tender, delicate enoki, infused with spicy soup, exploded with flavor—a taste beyond compare!
Her eyes sparkled, and she tossed all the prepared ingredients into the broth.
The pot bubbled and steamed, filling the air with fragrance as Lin Xiaodou feasted. Tender duck blood, juicy tofu skin, bouncy fish balls, succulent shrimp—she devoured them one after another, each bite a delight. She ate so much her mouth burned bright red, prompting her to open a bottle of chilled juice and gulp it down in one go. How satisfying!
When the meal was over, Lin Xiaodou realized she had eaten more than a hundred skewers. Yet her stomach felt no discomfort. Ever since gaining her supernatural powers, her appetite had grown enormous. Luckily, her space was piled high with supplies; otherwise, she might have worried about running out.
After her meal, she set about decorating the wooden house within her space. It had previously been empty and bare. The spacious living room, about a hundred square meters, now housed her collection of fitness equipment on the left side, marking it as her exercise area. On the right, she placed sofas, a coffee table, and a dining table.
The house had three rooms: the largest she made her bedroom, another became a walk-in closet, and the last she turned into a study, complete with a projector for watching movies. Lin Xiaodou planned to spend her leisure time there. The bathroom and kitchen were both equipped with state-of-the-art appliances.
Thus, the rustic exterior of the wooden house belied its luxurious, modern interior. Lin Xiaodou strolled around, thoroughly pleased. She then went to the workout area in the living room and began her daily training. Even with her supernatural strength, she never let herself slack off. There’s always someone stronger out there; she had to stay in peak condition.
Two hours later, drenched in sweat, Lin Xiaodou took a quick shower before heading to the study. Reclining in a comfortable massage chair, savoring expensive grapes and watching heartwarming comedies, Lin Xiaodou felt like the happiest person in the world.
Such tranquil days—how blissful they were.
