Chapter 116: The Grudge Between Her and Lin Xiaodou Was Sealed

Not long after, the other veterinary apprentices finished work and returned. Upon hearing that a new colleague had arrived, everyone was quite curious. When they finally saw her in person, all were stunned by Lin Xiaodou’s striking beauty.

“Hello everyone, my name is Lin Xiaodou. I’m the new colleague starting today. It’s a pleasure to meet you all,” she greeted with a smile.

Seeing everyone momentarily frozen, Lin Xiaodou smiled again, lighting up the entire room like a blossoming garden. The group was once more left speechless.

They introduced themselves to each other. When Lin Xiaodou went to the dry restroom, a few of the women immediately began whispering.

“My goodness, this woman is absolutely stunning. I’ve never seen anyone so beautiful.”

“Right? Her skin is so smooth and radiant. How does she even maintain it?”

“Hehe, take a look over at the men’s side—several bachelors are practically drooling.”

Hearing this, Zhang Guihua quickly peeked over. When she saw the man she liked staring fixedly at Lin Xiaodou, she snorted coldly.

“Hmph, all she has is a seductive fox-like face. What’s there to be so proud of? Our place only keeps those who prove their competence. If she fails the monthly assessment, she’ll be shown the door just like anyone else.”

Being a veterinary apprentice wasn’t something just anyone could do. If one failed the assessment after a month, they would be dismissed. Moreover, each doctor’s team only had five member slots; any excess meant someone had to go.

Zhang Guihua had heard that Lin Xiaodou was a well-connected insider and wouldn’t last long.

Not everyone present was as petty as Zhang Guihua, though. Someone advised quietly, “Guihua, keep your voice down. It’d be embarrassing if anyone overheard.”

Guihua snorted again and fell silent.

On the men’s side, a cheerful young man spoke to a tall comrade with a grin: “Brother Yong, looks like Sister Guihua is jealous. Aren’t you going to say something?”

Peng Yong replied impatiently, “She’s not my girlfriend. Why would I bother?”

Someone teased, “Weren’t you two hitting it off before? What happened now?”

“I was just trying to get close to Sister Guihua, not really dating her,” Peng Yong said, his eyes gleaming with a conquering desire as they landed on a charming figure in the distance.

“Now I have someone I want to pursue. Don’t drag Sister Guihua’s name into this and cause misunderstandings.”

The other men exchanged glances and smirked. This guy fell for anyone he saw. Before, he pursued Guihua because she was the prettiest. Now that he’d spotted someone even more beautiful, he shifted his affections immediately.

To be honest, everyone found Lin Xiaodou captivating, if only briefly. They were all realistic enough to know a woman with such poise and beauty wouldn’t be interested in them. They only wondered if Peng Yong would be the one to win her over. After all, Peng Yong came from a good family and had also gotten in through connections.

By evening, everyone tidied up to head to the cafeteria. Peng Yong immediately approached Lin Xiaodou, eager to please.

“Comrade Lin, since it’s your first day, you might not know where the cafeteria is. Let me show you the way.”

Lin Xiaodou replied calmly, “No need to trouble yourself. I’ll go with Sister Chen and the others.”

Sister Chen was also part of Doctor He’s team, and they had already spoken earlier. Besides, Peng Yong’s intense gaze made Lin Xiaodou reluctant to have much to do with him.

Peng Yong looked at her with infatuation. “It’s no trouble at all. I’m happy to help.”

It was Zhang Guihua speaking.

Guihua’s eyes immediately welled up.

Sister Chen quickly stepped in to mediate. “Alright, alright, no more fighting. We’re all colleagues here—let’s all just back down a bit.”

She linked arms with Lin Xiaodou and walked ahead.

“Comrade Lin, come on, I’ll help you get familiar with the route.”

As they left, the others gradually followed. Peng Yong and Zhang Guihua lagged behind.

“Guihua, let’s just forget what happened before. Don’t say anything else.”

Guihua snapped back, “Why should I? My reputation’s ruined. You can’t treat me like this.”

Peng Yong laughed, “You’re almost twenty and still so foolish. It was just a kiss, not losing your virtue. Your reputation is intact.”

Guihua ground her teeth in fury. “Peng Yong, you bastard! You’re inhuman—I’m going to report you!”

Peng Yong sneered. “You’re not innocent either. In the months we’ve spent together, how much have you gained from me? Don’t you have any self-awareness?”

Guihua’s expression darkened instantly.

She had indeed been attracted by Peng Yong’s wealth and status, which was why she’d gotten involved with him. Over these months, she’d taken quite a bit from him—money and gifts.

Now, that had become her leverage against her.

Glancing at the distant figure ahead, Guihua’s heart burned with hatred. Her grudge against Lin Xiaodou was sealed. If not for this woman, Peng Yong wouldn’t have abandoned her!
