The Heiress Campus Beauty x the Illegitimate Son School Bully — Chapter 1
Song Ran was nothing more than an ordinary female college student, working part-time to support her studies and struggling toward a better future. Her life was financially strained, yet full of hope. There were countless bizarre ways to die in this world, but all she had done was walk along the road to school when she was struck by a drunk driver. As her consciousness faded, she heard a grating sound like a broken machine: screech... screech... screech... screech...
Song Ran’s soul drifted weightlessly in midair as she watched helplessly while her mangled body lay motionless in a cold pool of blood. Her flesh was twisted and deformed, her clothes torn to shreds. Blood seeped slowly from her fatal wounds like winding streams, staining the ground crimson. The vehicle that had struck her stood crookedly nearby, its front end crushed and its windows shattered. The scene was a complete wreck, like some hideous beast baring its cavernous jaws and swallowing her vibrant life in an instant.
Passing pedestrians gathered around. Their cries of alarm and murmured speculation blended into a noisy hum, distant and indistinct, as though heard through a thick barrier. Emergency workers hurried to the scene, but after a frantic examination, they could only shake their heads gravely and declare that nothing could be done. The body on the stretcher was covered with a white sheet, like a battered old doll discarded in the street.
Song Ran wanted to weep and scream, but she no longer had tear ducts or a physical voice. She wanted to touch herself, yet could only watch her hands pass straight through her body. The familiar face she had known all her life was now pale and horribly unfamiliar. Her heart was filled with unwillingness, confusion, and fear. She had never imagined that her university life would end so abruptly, that the dreams of her youth would shatter at her feet, or that fate would suddenly veer onto an entirely different course.
As Song Ran’s soul hovered in a daze above the accident scene, consumed by grief and bewilderment, a blinding blue light suddenly exploded before her without warning. The radiance rapidly condensed and twisted, transforming into a small, exquisite orb of light. After wriggling several times, it unexpectedly changed into a strange little creature.
The little creature was no larger than a palm. A gentle blue glow emanated from its entire body. It resembled a child, but possessed a pair of wings as thin as cicada wings and shimmering with multicolored light. They fluttered incessantly in the air. Its head was perfectly round, and its enormous eyes resembled two clear, lively glass beads. It stared Song Ran up and down, mischief glinting in its gaze.
It cleared its throat, but the sound that emerged was an emotionless electronic voice. “Song Ran, stop staring blankly. Time is of the essence.”
Startled and frightened, Song Ran instinctively drifted backward. Her voice trembled. “You... what kind of monster are you?”
The little orb of light rolled its eyes. “Monster? I’m Rapid-Transmigration Childbearing System 007, your only hope of being reborn. Hurry up and get moving. I’ll brief you on the mission. Don’t waste time.”
Filled with resistance, Song Ran glared at it. “Why should I listen to you? Go to some godforsaken place and have children? That’s absurd!”
007 swayed in midair, its wings stirring a faint breeze. With a sigh, it said, “Just look at the state of your shattered soul. If you refuse to do as I say, your soul will scatter immediately, and you’ll disappear forever. Don’t underestimate these childbearing missions. Complete one, and you can defy fate, reshape your life, and change your destiny. You only get one chance.”
After listening to System 007’s rapid-fire explanation of the mission, Song Ran’s mind exploded with a sudden buzzing roar, as though she had been struck by a thunderbolt from a clear sky. She was completely stunned.
Song Qian’s voice trembled. “Does ‘childbearing system’ mean what I think it means?”
Song Ran stared straight at the floating orb of light that was System 007, her eyes filled with wariness and uncertainty. Her voice shook as she asked, “This childbearing system you mentioned... it doesn’t mean you want me to abandon all dignity and become nothing more than a breeding tool, giving birth nonstop to children for different men in different worlds, does it? That’s utterly deranged. You’re not treating me like a human being at all!”
