At that moment, the phone rang again—still from that unfamiliar number. Shi Yunzheng sat on the sofa, drying her long hair still damp with water droplets. She glanced at the phone screen, paused for two seconds, then extended her slender fingers to answer and pressed the speakerphone button lightly.

A man’s voice came from the other end. “Hello, Shi Yun? It’s me, Cheng Jun. Yue Zhou got drunk and keeps insisting on seeing you. None of us can persuade him; he’s nearly killing himself with drink.”

Cheng Jun’s voice was laced with anxiety, speaking rapidly as if afraid Shi Yun would hang up immediately.

Shen Yuezhou? What did his drunken state have to do with her?

Shi Yun’s eyes flickered, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk tugging at the corner of her crimson lips as she said softly, “Let him die first.”

“No, Shi Yun, I’m begging you. Just show a bit of mercy and try to talk him down. If he keeps drinking, he might really cause stomach bleeding.”

Cheng Jun’s tone was almost pleading, and one could imagine his anxious expression even through the phone.

“That’s none of my concern.”

Shi Yun didn’t even furrow her brows; she calmly continued drying her hair, as if unaware of the desperate pleas on the other end.

“Come on, today he even took a beating from Gao Qian’an. It’s all because you were defending your cousin. He’s so frustrated that he’s drowned himself like this. Now that he sees you no longer have him in your eyes, he’s completely lost his mind.”

Cheng Jun poured out the truth in a rush, occasionally sighing, his voice full of helplessness.

Shi Yun’s hand paused briefly in drying her hair; a complex emotion flashed swiftly in her eyes before she returned to her usual cold composure.

Jiang Zhiyu, standing nearby, could no longer hold back. She sprang up from her chair and shouted, “You know when the car crashed, you turned away; when stocks plummeted, you sold out; when you made mistakes and got sentenced, you knew to repent; when you had a runny nose, you wiped it away. Now that our Yunyun has let go, you only realize you love her? Where were you before? What a hypocrite!”

Harsh words, yet the truth was undeniable.

Hearing Jiang Zhiyu’s outburst, Cheng Jun was momentarily stunned, then helplessly said, “Ah, Jiang Zhiyu, stop making things worse. I’m nearly frantic here.”

Shi Yun was silent for a few seconds. Just when the other side thought she wouldn’t speak again, she said leisurely, “He brought it on himself.”

She tilted her head slightly, gazing at the ceiling with an expressionless face, her grip tightening on the towel.

“Shi Yun, I beg you, just come over. You wouldn’t want to watch him drink himself into danger, right? We’re acquaintances; just do me this favor.”

Cheng Jun’s voice was nearly breaking.

Shi Yun stood up and walked to the window, looking out into the night. Her fingers tapped the windowsill absentmindedly.

After a long moment, she exhaled softly. “The address.”

The person on the other end quickly gave the address, voice full of joy. “Got it. Shi Yun, come quickly. I’m waiting here to pick you up.”

After hanging up, Jiang Zhiyu approached her, fuming. “That Shen Yuezhou is really something. The kid’s dead, and now you’re nursing him? Where were you all this time?”

Shi Yun gave a faint smile tinged with helplessness but said nothing. She turned and headed straight back to her room to change clothes.

Jiang Zhiyu hurried after her, “Yun, I’ll go with you.”

Thinking about the bar being a den of all sorts, more people meant more safety, so Shi Yun nodded slightly.

After changing, just as they reached the door, the phone rang abruptly again.

The screen showed it was still Cheng Jun.

Shi Yun sighed helplessly and answered, her brows instinctively furrowed. “Hello?”

“Shi Yun, where are you? Yuezhou’s causing more trouble here. He just smashed a bottle and cut his hand. He keeps shouting your name. You’ve got to come quickly!”

Cheng Jun’s voice was filled with panic, and the background noise was loud, as if someone was shouting.

“I just stepped out. What’s the rush?”

Shi Yun’s frown deepened, a clear impatience flashing in her eyes, her tone colder.

“Alright, alright, be safe on your way and hurry!” Cheng Jun reminded her again before quickly hanging up.

The Charm City Club.

The music was deafening, lights flashing wildly, making one dizzy.

Jiang Zhiyu clung tightly to Shi Yun’s clothes, shooing away someone deliberately brushing against them, shouting, “Yun, slow down! It’s too chaotic here.”

After only a few steps, a group of men in floral shirts and thick gold chains approached with grins. “Hey, beautiful, come play, have a drink with us.”

Jiang Zhiyu waved them off repeatedly, “Go away, we’re not playing with you!”

Shi Yun showed no expression and pulled Jiang Zhiyu along.

Inside a private room, Cheng Jun had just calmed the thoroughly drunk Shen Yuezhou when his phone rang.

Upon hearing Shi Yun and Jiang Zhiyu had arrived, he hurriedly rushed downstairs.

Spotting the two surrounded by a crowd, he quickly parted the people with a sincere apology. “Sorry, this place is too chaotic. Didn’t mean to startle you.”

Then he led them upstairs.

At the same time, Lu Xingzhi, leisurely drinking in a booth, glanced up unintentionally and caught sight of Shi Yun’s figure. Thinking he must be seeing things from too much alcohol, he blinked hard.

Only when he saw Jiang Zhiyu beside her did he confirm it was real.

Watching Cheng Jun usher the two upstairs hurriedly, a playful smile curved Lu Xingzhi’s lips, one eyebrow lifting slightly. He took out his phone with interest and made a call.

After hanging up, Lu Xingzhi sipped his drink, eyes gleaming with anticipation.

Shi Yun and Jiang Zhiyu had just reached the private room’s door when they heard Shen Yuezhou’s drunken ruckus inside, shouting Shi Yun’s name.

Cheng Jun knocked on the door and looked back at Shi Yun, his face troubled. “Let’s go in and see. He’s really drunk, quite bad.”

Inside, smoke filled the air, and the dim lighting was like a veil.

Shen Yuezhou sprawled in the center of the sofa, his shirt buttons popped open.

Clutching an empty bottle, his bleary eyes muttered, “Shi Yun, I want to see Shi Yun…”

Around him, friends wore troubled expressions, offering half-hearted advice.

Seeing Shi Yun arrive, Chu Feiyu called out to Shen Yuezhou, “Alright, alright, stop shouting. Shi Yun’s here.”

Shen Yuezhou’s eyes were hazy; with great effort, he slowly lifted his head.

The moment he saw Shi Yun, he seemed frozen, stunned briefly as a glimmer of light returned to his previously vacant eyes.

Then his eyes reddened; struggling to stand, he said, “Shi Yun… you came…”

But his legs weakened, and he nearly collapsed again.

Shi Yun stood at the door, brow slightly furrowed.

It was the first time she had seen Shen Yuezhou like this.

Decadent, desolate.

Completely different from his usual cold demeanor.
