“Boss! I’ve been by your side for years, but I’ve never seen you reveal this kind of strength before,” Ruan Wenyong said as he helped others set up the tent, glancing at Wei Hua.
“What’s there to make a fuss about? It’s just some strength. I don’t rely on it to make a living, so what’s the point of showing it off? There hasn’t been a time I needed to use it all these years. Besides, I’m not the type to seek attention. So it’s normal you wouldn’t know. Even Mary and the others don’t know, so how could you?” Wei Hua replied while busy with his tasks.
The others, including Ding Peng, were no ordinary men. They knew how exhausting the physical effort had been over the past ten-plus hours, especially carrying two hundred pounds of gear. These professionally trained soldiers were already drained after trekking through the Amazon jungle for hours with heavy loads. Yet, Wei Hua—untrained—bore that immense weight without showing a trace of fatigue. It was nothing short of innate divine strength.
In this primeval tropical rainforest, no roads existed. Progress was made by someone ahead wielding a machete to clear grass, vines, and other plants, carving a path. Hence, their pace was slow. Their return route was the same as their arrival’s, so logically, the path should still exist. In reality, the jungle’s rapid growth had erased the trail carved out over ten days ago, making it indistinguishable from the surrounding wilderness once again.
After trekking for over ten days in the Amazon, one day while moving forward, Wei Hua’s spiritual sense detected ambushers ahead among the foliage. They seemed to be targeting them, all armed. As Wei Hua was thinking about how to warn the group, Ruan Wenyong suddenly spoke up:
“Stop! Boss, something feels off! There’s danger ahead! I’ll check it out. You guys stay hidden here.”
“There’s definitely something strange! It’s too quiet—too quiet for a place that should be alive. We need to be cautious. Ruan Wenyong, I’ll go with you,” Ding Peng added promptly.
“All right! You two be careful. The rest of us will rest here a bit,” Wei Hua agreed with their plan. He was just about to find a way to warn them when Ruan Wenyong’s keen sense of danger, able to pick up threats from a thousand meters away, surprised him. This guy was almost a freak.
With Wei Hua’s consent, Ruan Wenyong and Ding Peng, weapons in hand, slipped into the dense grass ahead and vanished from sight. Not long after, gunshots and shouts erupted from the jungle.
Wei Hua’s spiritual awareness remained fixed on them. These two, undoubtedly seasoned soldiers, moved silently and swiftly through the jungle, quickly closing in on the ambushers. In contrast, the attackers were clumsy and disorganized under the assault, unable to coordinate properly. Because the situation was unclear, Ruan Wenyong and Ding Peng refrained from killing, capturing two alive and knocking out the rest. The ambushers were spread across three locations; Ruan Wenyong and Ding Peng struck the closest spot before retreating with their captives. The gunfire and shouting came from the other two groups reacting to the surprise attack.
Soon, Ruan Wenyong and Ding Peng brought the two unconscious captives before Wei Hua. Before they could be roused, Indiana Jones gasped upon seeing them:
“Again these guys? How could they know I came here? I didn’t tell a soul about this mission!”
“Do you know these two?” Wei Hua asked Jones.
“Yes, I do! I think they’re after me!” Jones admitted honestly.
“Who are they? Why are they hunting you here in the jungle?”
“They’re from the Jason family, one of the major Mafia clans in the American West. They’re ruthless, always scheming to profit from any venture. Tony Jason is the youngest son of John Jason, the head of the clan. He’s a treasure hunter too, but a devious one—preferring to rob others’ finds rather than seek treasures himself. They robbed me twice years ago, causing serious losses. But I don’t know how they learned we were coming to the Amazon this time. This trip was impromptu, and I told no one!” Jones explained to Wei Hua.
“Mafia? These guys are insatiably greedy. Smuggling, drug trafficking, arms dealing must not be profitable enough; now they’re resorting to robbery? To find out how they knew we were coming, we just need to wake these two and question them,” Wei Hua said, signaling Ruan Wenyong and Ding Peng to rouse the captives.
Faced with these cold-blooded professional soldiers, the two from the Jason family quickly spilled the details. It was just bad luck for Jones. Upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a Jason family member who knew Jones was there, tipping off Tony Jason’s men.
“Boss! What should we do?” Ruan Wenyong asked after learning the ambushers’ background.
“Beat these two up and send them off. Let them tell Tony Jason we don’t care about his old grudges with Jones. Now, Jones is working for us, and we must protect him. If Tony Jason doesn’t get the hint, then let him stay in the Amazon jungle. The scenery’s nice; I’m sure he’ll like it,” Wei Hua said calmly, though his meaning was unmistakably clear.
