Chapter 106: Complete Fusion
The flyers were also prepared by Wei Hua; this was part of his strategy to confuse the Indonesian intelligence services. The Indonesian agencies would undoubtedly obsess over tracking down the nonexistent “Indonesian Freedom Alliance.” On December 20th, Wei Hua returned to Hong Kong. Upon arrival, he first called Silin and Mary in New York, expressing how much he missed and cared for them. He then invited them to come to Hong Kong to celebrate Christmas together. The three of them talked on the phone for a full three hours.
After hanging up with New York, Wei Hua called Kinoshita Sakurako in Tokyo. This time, there were no sweet words exchanged; Sakurako’s upbringing meant she wouldn’t complain to him. As long as Wei Hua remembered her and showed a little concern, she was content. Besides, her mind was fully focused on the investment company’s projects, with Japan being the largest investment region for Wei Hua.
After speaking with Sakurako, Wei Hua contacted the Hong Kong office, only to learn that Jessie was currently in Shenzhen overseeing the installation and debugging of the new production line. Jessie was expected to return to Hong Kong before Christmas. Upon hearing this, Wei Hua felt listless—he had returned but no one was paying attention to him, which was frustrating.
Soon, the doorbell rang. When Wei Hua opened the gate, he found his personal secretary, He Xiaoya, standing outside. She had come with Ding Peng. After serving them tea, Wei Hua asked, “How did you know I was back?”
“Don’t you know? We’re now part of the Hong Kong branch of Excellence Private Investment Company. Our office is in the building in Central. If you call the company, how could we not know? Since one of us is your personal secretary and the other your driver, we’re the most relaxed when you’re away. It was Miss Jessie who arranged this for us. How’s the matter in Indonesia going?” He Xiaoya inquired, knowing that Ding Peng was privy to the plan, so there was no need to hide anything from him.
“It’s all settled! The estate acquisition plan has been successfully completed. I’m planning to separate this property, as it will need to be returned to our compatriots in Indonesia in the future. Besides, I’m not short of money. You need to work with Lawyer Liu Weijian to handle this matter promptly,” Wei Hua said.
He Xiaoya and Ding Peng then updated Wei Hua on the training progress of Lin Jihan, Yu Xiaomeng, Jiang Hua, and others. Overall, everything was proceeding smoothly.
On the 24th, Jessie returned from Shenzhen, Silin and Mary flew in from New York, and Kinoshita Sakurako arrived from Tokyo. The whole family spent Christmas together. After the holiday, the four women returned to their respective work, while Wei Hua resumed his usual routine.
After resting for two days, Wei Hua, accompanied by Ding Peng and He Xiaoya, went to visit Professor Yu. Yu had spent Christmas in Hong Kong with his family, whom Wei Hua had instructed He Xiaoya to bring from the United States. According to He Xiaoya, in order to expedite the completion of the chip and wafer production lines, Professor Yu had been living and working on-site, personally overseeing the progress. He had not returned to the United States for nine months, which deeply moved Wei Hua. He understood that Yu’s dedication was not for himself or for Wei Hua, but for the sake of China’s talent. Thus, Wei Hua arranged for Yu’s family to come to Hong Kong so they could have a reunited Christmas.
Wei Hua met Professor Yu at the construction site. Compared to the last time in the U.S., the professor was now more tanned but looked much more spirited. Upon seeing Wei Hua, Yu said, “Mr. Wei! No, I should call you boss now! Thank you for bringing my family here to Hong Kong. My wife asked me to convey her regards to you.”
“You’re too polite, Professor Yu! It’s my duty. Besides, just call me Wei Hua. ‘Mr. Wei’ sounds too formal, and ‘boss’ still feels a bit strange to me. A name is meant to be called, isn’t it? Otherwise, why have one?” Wei Hua joked.
Professor Yu then briefly updated Wei Hua on the progress of the production lines. The cleanroom was nearing completion, and the main building of the technology lab, overseen by Yu himself, was also finished. It just needed interior decoration before it could be used. He handed Wei Hua a thick procurement list detailing all the laboratory equipment required. Wei Hua casually passed the list to He Xiaoya, instructing her to obtain everything on it. If anything proved impossible to acquire, she was to inform him immediately so he could find a solution.
One night after New Year’s Day, Wei Hua lay in bed at his residence in Repulse Bay, absorbing energy. Since he was in Hong Kong, he was careful not to cause a blackout, so the absorption was slow and steady. Suddenly, the voice of the bio-computer echoed in his mind:
“Deep integration complete! Initiating second phase of bodily enhancement and brain domain activation!”
Wei Hua felt a loud ringing inside his head before losing consciousness. A purple orb of light appeared, enveloping his body and suspending him eerily in midair.
