Chapter 92: I Cannot Hurt Her
Although Xie An was inexperienced in the ways of the world, he was not foolish.
Mo Qi’s cheeks were flushed, her breathing labored. If it was not a cold or a fever, then there was only one other possibility.
“Mo Qi, where does it hurt?” Xie An’s heart ached, and he was about to go closer and look more carefully.
“Don’t come over!” Mo Qi suddenly snapped, “Xie An, I’ll be fine if I’m left alone for a while. Go watch over Lin Zheng first. She may have mistaken the pills for medicine and swallowed them. Don’t let anything happen to her.”
“And what about you?” Xie An felt a little unhappy. “If something can happen to Lin Zheng, why can’t it happen to you?”
Of course it could happen to her too—just like now.
Even after being so careful, she had still been drugged.
Now she was forcing herself to speak to Xie An through a pain that gnawed at bone and marrow.
Mo Qi knew that if Xie An touched her skin now, she would very likely become a lust-crazed beast in the next instant.
Emotionally, she could not give Xie An any answer, but neither could she hurt him.
Seeing Mo Qi close her eyes and fall silent, Xie An suddenly grew anxious. Had what he just said gone too far?
Because she was a little older, Mo Qi always thought of everything for them. Yet he had just shouted at her over that, stabbing straight at her heart.
Xie An stood awkwardly in place. “Mo Qi, I didn’t mean it that way just now. I was only worried about you. I want to stay and take care of you.”
“I know.” Mo Qi opened her eyes and said seriously, “I understand that you’re worried about me. But you’ve seen the situation now, and you should know what happened. Staying here will not be better than leaving.”
“But—”
Mo Qi’s small face was already drenched in a rosy haze, and even under the dim light she remained breathtaking.
Perhaps because of the heat surging through her body, she reached up and loosened the top two buttons of her gauze shirt. With the slightest shift of her upper body, the perfect line of her chest could be faintly seen.
Xie An hastily turned his gaze away, his ears and cheeks turning so red it seemed blood could drip from them.
A voice inside him was clamoring for him to go closer to Mo Qi.
If he approached her now, he could ease his own longing and help Mo Qi at the same time.
But could he do that?
Xie An clenched his fists and forcibly suppressed the voice in his heart.
He could not hurt her.
“Mo Qi, I’ll be right outside. Call me if anything happens.” Xie An did not dare look at her as she was now. After speaking those words in a hurry, he turned, opened the door, and went out.
“Sir, do you need anything?” Seeing Xie An come out in a rush, the waiter approached politely to ask.
“Um, my friend is sleeping inside. Could you help me keep watch at this door and not let anyone wander in by mistake?” Xie An tried to keep his voice calm. “I’m going to another private room for a moment. I’ll be back in two minutes.”
“Of course, no problem.”
He was probably even more jumpy after Mo Qi had been drugged.
Xie An took out his phone and asked the waiter to take a photo with him, making sure the room number was visible as well.
“Sorry.” After taking the picture, Xie An nodded apologetically and ran toward the private room Long Jia had booked.
When he pushed the door open, the room was still filled with people dancing to wild music.
Frowning, Xie An went inside without paying attention to anyone else. He pushed through the crowd, grabbed Lin Zheng by the wrist, and forcibly dragged her out.
The others were all immersed in their own hallucinations, and no one stopped him.
Lin Zheng was pulled out with a somewhat dazed expression, her eyes unfocused. “Xie An? When did you get here?”
Xie An said nothing. He dragged Lin Zheng out of the private room and straight to the restroom.
“Xie An, what’s wrong? Slow down. You’re hurting my hand.”
Struggling, Lin Zheng was ignored as Xie An brought her to the sink. He turned on the faucet, cupped cold water in his hands, and splashed it onto her face.
The icy water jolted her, and Lin Zheng shuddered. Her alcohol-clouded mind finally became much clearer.
“Xie An, are you crazy? That water is so cold. I’ll catch a cold,” Lin Zheng complained as she reached for the paper towels beside her.
“Are you awake now?” Xie An asked.
Lin Zheng blinked and turned to look at him. “You’re acting weird. What’s wrong?”
Xie An still did not answer. “If you’re awake, take a taxi home yourself. I’m leaving first.”
“Wait!” Lin Zheng stopped him. “Something happened!”
Though Xie An was strong and determined at heart, his temperament was reserved and gentle. He would never normally speak or act this way.
“Where’s Mo Qi?” There was no reason for Xie An to drag only her out and not Mo Qi as well.
Lin Zheng suddenly realized, “Did something happen to Mo Qi?”
Seeing that she could not be kept in the dark, Xie An admitted honestly, “It seems Mo Qi was drugged. She’s in the private room by herself now, and I’m worried.”
“Mo Qi is so careful. That’s impossible.” The rest of Lin Zheng’s words would not come out.
Just now her mind had been too muddled to react. Now that she was clear-headed, she remembered the two pills Zhao Jianglin had handed her while they were dancing.
At the time she had seen Zhao Jianglin take one himself and had not thought much of it. Turning around, she gave one to Mo Qi.
“I’m sorry. I may have given the drug to Mo Qi by accident.”
Xie An knew Lin Zheng could never have been carrying that sort of filthy thing on her person. Someone else must have given it to her, and because she was careless and did not think it through, both of them had ended up caught in the trap.
“Forget that. I’m going to take care of Mo Qi. You can take a taxi home yourself.” Xie An moved around Lin Zheng and strode away.
Lin Zheng gritted her teeth. “How could I possibly go home in peace at a time like this? Wait for me.”
Before long, the two of them reached the outside of Mo Qi’s private room.
Xie An took out fifty yuan and handed it to the waiter. “I’m back. Thank you.”
“It’s nothing. If you need anything else, just call me.” The waiter smiled, accepted the tip, and left.
Lin Zheng stepped forward and reached for the doorknob to open the door, but Xie An suddenly pressed her hand down.
“Don’t go in now.” He shook his head. “Mo Qi is so proud. She definitely wouldn’t want us to see her like this.”
“But if we don’t go in, what if something happens to Mo Qi alone in there?”
Mo Qi’s earlier dazed expression suddenly flashed through his mind, and Xie An shook his head. “No, we can’t. I can’t go in. You go in. Don’t let her do anything to hurt herself.”
“Alright.” Lin Zheng looked at Xie An, then opened the door and went in alone.
Mo Qi was half-reclined on the sofa.
Her cheeks were flushed, and her fingers were picking at the leather covering of the seat.
Seeing her like this, Lin Zheng was overcome with remorse.
“Mo Qi, Mo Qi?” Lin Zheng went over and tried to pat her shoulder, only to have her hand suddenly slapped away.
“Get away!” Mo Qi suddenly opened her eyes. Her dark pupils were veined with red, her guarded stare icy, sharp, and fierce.
But on closer look, the light in her eyes was scattered and unfocused. At this rate, she probably could not even tell who was standing in front of her.
Mo Qi was too guarded, and Lin Zheng could not get near her at all.
And her condition was so terrible. If this continued, who knew what might happen.
“No.” Lin Zheng quickly opened the door and went back out. “Mo Qi’s condition is very bad. We have to take her to the hospital right away.”
