Sister Shang certainly knew about the current relationship between Lin Zheng and Xie An, but she found it a bit hard to understand. What was so wrong about having a boyfriend who was successful? Why did Lin Zheng confront him with such a sour expression?

“Miss Lin, the company’s arrangement for Xiao An must be based on their plans,” Sister Shang said with a smile. “I imagine Tianyu Entertainment will also have plans for your future development. Everyone is treated equally. I hope you can understand Xiao An.”

Sister Shang had intended to ease the tension between them, but Lin Zheng remained unappreciative, stubbornly staring at Xie An as if demanding an explanation.

“Lin Zheng,” Mo Qi gently tugged Lin Zheng’s arm. No matter how unhappy she felt inside, with Sister Shang—someone unfamiliar with the situation—right in front of them, she should restrain herself.

Lin Zheng forced herself to calm down a little. Xie An glanced sideways at Sister Shang.

Sister Shang smiled knowingly. “Xiao An, I’ll be waiting for you at the café on the second floor.”

With that, she turned and left.

Once Sister Shang had gone, Lin Zheng’s displeased expression faded somewhat. She lowered her head and whispered, “I’m sorry. You changed the program suddenly, and I didn’t know the situation. I was worried about you.”

“I know,” Xie An forced a smile. “I know you were worried about me. I thought about this for a long time and only made the decision last night. I didn’t have time to tell you. I’m sorry.”

Mo Qi asked, “Was it at that party that night when Sister Shang approached you about signing the contract?”

Xie An glanced at Mo Qi and nodded. “Actually, Tianyu Entertainment had approached me before, but I wanted to go to Royal more, so I agreed to them.”

“Did you carefully read the contract they gave you?” Mo Qi asked. “Were all the conditions and your future development plans clearly explained?”

“Mo Qi,” Lin Zheng suddenly interrupted, “I helped Xie An look over the contract. There’s no problem.”

After speaking, Lin Zheng averted her gaze awkwardly.

Mo Qi swallowed the concern that had been caught in her throat. She looked at Lin Zheng with a smile and nodded. “That’s good. You guys talk—I’ll leave first.”

Since Lin Zheng was so guarded about her interactions with Xie An now, there was no point in her staying any longer.

Mo Qi smiled and turned without hesitation to leave.

Watching her retreating figure, Lin Zheng clenched her fists and couldn’t help but call out, “Mo Qi!”

Mo Qi stopped, turned around, and looked at her.

Lin Zheng hesitated, then said, “Do you want to have dinner together later?”

“No, thank you,” Mo Qi smiled and shook her head. “I have something else to do.” With that, she didn’t linger and walked away.

Lin Zheng loved Xie An too much and guarded him like a thief. If the three of them continued like this, even their past friendships would vanish. If that was the case, it was better to part on good terms.

Mo Qi sighed and went to the makeup room to remove her makeup and change clothes.

“Xie An, I…” Lin Zheng looked back at Xie An, struggling to speak. She knew very well that Mo Qi had said she wouldn't like Xie An, and she truly wouldn’t. Besides, Xie An was still her boyfriend, so Mo Qi wouldn’t do anything. But she just couldn’t help wanting to keep them apart.

Lin Zheng felt painful and frustrated inside. Why had she now become the kind of woman she once despised—sensitive and narrow-minded?

“It’s my fault. I haven’t been able to give you a sense of security,” Xie An said, pulling the guitar on his back. “It’s getting late. You should take a taxi back to your dorm and rest early. Sister Shang is still waiting for me on the second floor. I’m going first.”

“Xie An!” Lin Zheng grabbed his arm, tears welling up in her eyes. “Are you blaming me?”

“No, don’t overthink it,” Xie An comforted, patting the back of her hand. “Sister Shang is about to take me to meet a music producer. Time is tight.”

Lin Zheng bit her lip. “Last time I even invited Mo Qi to my house, but then…” Because of her own changing feelings, she never brought it up again.

“Xie An, don’t blame me. I just don’t want to lose you,” Lin Zheng said, her eyes pleading.

Xie An sighed and gave her a hug. “I know. Don’t worry. I will keep the promises I made to you.”

It was still all about promises, not love. Lin Zheng smiled bitterly and released him. “I’m fine now. You should go. Don’t keep Sister Shang waiting.”

“Alright, I’m off. You should rest early too.”

They said their goodbyes. Lin Zheng went to the makeup room cabinet to get her things and happened to run into Mo Qi, who was ready to leave.

“Mo Qi, you’re leaving already?” Lin Zheng greeted awkwardly.

“Mm,” Mo Qi smiled and nodded, brushing past her.

Her smile remained polite but lost the warmth it once had, replaced by a cool detachment. Lin Zheng watched Mo Qi’s retreating back, her eyes growing red with sadness.

Friendship is like this: when you distance yourself from her, she will gradually distance herself from you. Even if you were once close friends who shared everything.

Mo Qi hadn’t thought as much as Lin Zheng did. Since Lin Zheng didn’t want her to interact with Xie An, then they wouldn’t. It would also spare all three of them from awkwardness.

Mo Qi left the TV station and was about to take a taxi back to her dorm when her phone rang.

The caller ID showed it was Brother Xiao Zhang.

Since that uncomfortable night, not only had Shen Yijue not contacted her, but even Xiao Zhang, Shen Yijue’s assistant, hadn’t reached out.

Mo Qi wasn’t sure what she felt when she saw the call but hesitated briefly before answering. “Hello, Brother Xiao Zhang.”

“Mo Qi, have you finished filming the show?” Xiao Zhang’s voice was low and sounded a bit anxious.

“Yes, it’s over. Brother Xiao Zhang, is something wrong?”

“Well…” Xiao Zhang shifted his position, making sure he wouldn’t disturb Shen Yijue, who was resting in the hospital room. Then he lowered his voice, “Brother Shen is sick. He didn’t pay attention to it before, but he collapsed with a high fever during filming. He’s now at Rende Hospital receiving IV treatment. Brother Shen told me not to tell you about this, but my mother fell down the stairs and I have to rush home. Brother Guan is on a business trip out of town and can’t help, so could you come and take care of Brother Shen?”

“Brother Xiao Zhang, what’s the ward number? I’ll be there right away. Your mother’s situation is more important—you should go home first.” Mo Qi immediately thought it must be the aftereffects of that night’s rain during the night shoot.

That night, Shen Yijue had sneezed, and they thought it was just the flour irritant, so no one took it seriously. But it had unexpectedly worsened.

“Brother Shen is in the VIP ward, room 304.” Xiao Zhang sighed in relief and sincerely said, “Thank you, Mo Qi.”

“No problem. I’ll take a taxi right now. Brother Xiao Zhang, you take care of your own matters.”

Xiao Zhang hesitated on the other end and said, “Mo Qi, I don’t know what happened between you and Brother Shen, but Brother Shen really treats you differently.”

Mo Qi was momentarily stunned. After stepping into the elevator, she quietly replied, “I know.”
