Chapter 26: Slaying the C-Class Patient Entity
Xie Yunjun moved through the hallways, immersed in this atmosphere of natural terror, harvesting a massive amount of fear points from the remaining humans. The group of puppets trailing behind her had grown from just Bai Miaomiao to five in total.
As Xie Yunjun led her five zombie-like puppets down from the second floor, she ran into Chen Wanchong, who was heading up. Upon seeing the undead procession, Chen Wanchong jumped back in fright.
"Ding! Fear points from Chen Wanchong +300."
The sudden notification from the master system startled Xie Yunjun. Only then did she notice Chen Wanchong standing at the foot of the stairs. She immediately signaled her five "Bai Miaomiao" puppets, who stood as motionless as corpses, to stop.
"It seems you are the only one left."
Hearing the menacing tone in Xie Yunjun’s voice, Chen Wanchong instinctively retreated another step. What was this specter planning? Was she going to break her word?
"Why are you looking at me with that expression? A specter like me doesn't need any so-called reputation!" Xie Yunjun looked down at Chen Wanchong from her vantage point, listening to the steady stream of fear points he provided. A smirk played on her lips. "Since there is still time, why don't we play a game? If you can survive the night, I won't cause you any more trouble in this instance."
Chen Wanchong didn't need to think twice to know that any game Xie Yunjun proposed would be far from pleasant. "And what if I say no? What about Sister Zhang? Did you kill her?"
While Chen Wanchong used his words to distract her, his mind raced, calculating which direction he could run to escape her safely. But while the imagination is pleasant, reality is cruel. Xie Yunjun was not distracted by his chatter, nor did she answer his question; she simply watched him, her smile deepening.
When Chen Wanchong finally couldn't bear the tension and turned to run, Xie Yunjun, having anticipated his move, teleported in front of him and delivered a swift kick. Chen Wanchong was sent flying. After tracing a graceful arc through the air, he slammed heavily onto the stairs, coughing up a mouthful of bruised blood and mangled organ tissue.
It took a long while for his dizziness and the ringing in his ears to subside. When he finally looked up, he saw Xie Yunjun standing beside him.
"Still running?"
As she asked, Chen Wanchong tried to speak, but he began to cough violently, spitting out more shredded internal organs.
"Get up! We haven't finished our game yet!" Xie Yunjun kicked him a few times to urge him on. Having had his spirit broken by her kick, Chen Wanchong stood up obediently.
"See these 'friends' beside you? Go play hide-and-seek with them! If you can escape their hunt and survive until morning, I will never bother you again. You have one minute to hide. After that, they will come for you!"
With that, Xie Yunjun retracted her finger, turned, and walked downstairs, where she settled into a lounge chair in the lobby. Chen Wanchong pulled a healing pill from his system inventory, swallowed it, and bolted toward the left side of the first floor. Xie Yunjun glanced at him dismissively before looking away.
Once the minute was up, the five puppets, which had been frozen in place, sprang to life as if wound up, scrambling frantically toward the direction where Chen Wanchong had fled. Xie Yunjun kept her eyes closed throughout.
As midnight struck, she felt the environment around her grow darker. Xie Yunjun slowly opened her eyes and stood up. Her hands clenched, and her eyes turned an increasingly vivid shade of crimson, betraying her inner excitement.
"Host, don't be nervous!"
"Yingying! I’m not nervous! I’m just excited. I bet that specter is blocking my office door right now."
Xie Yunjun guessed correctly. The C-rank patient specter had gone straight to her office door, mistaking Zhang Yurou, who was inside, for Xie Yunjun. The specter was confused as to why the "Xie Yunjun" inside the office had become so weak.
Meanwhile, Xie Yunjun had tracked down an E-rank patient specter and dispatched it in a single strike. By the time she had eliminated two F-rank and another E-rank patient specter, she ran into the C-rank patient specter on the second floor.
Seeing Xie Yunjun’s familiar face, the C-rank specter was stunned. How had her ghostly aura become even heavier than her own in just one day? Before the specter’s ancient brain could react, Xie Yunjun teleported right in front of her, tore off her arm, and swept her legs, driving her high heel into the specter’s waist. The C-rank specter was sent flying, crashing onto the floor.
Although one should strike while the enemy is down, Xie Yunjun feared the C-rank specter might pull a dirty trick if she fully recovered. Furthermore, she wanted to hone her combat skills and test her limits. So, after kicking the specter away, she stood her ground, watching vigilantly as the specter crawled up from the floor.
Seeing her severed arm lying discarded, the C-rank specter let out a screech and charged at Xie Yunjun, her hair swirling behind her like a weapon. Xie Yunjun leapt upward, somersaulting in mid-air. Her long, sharp fingernails, now like steel blades, shredded the incoming hair.
Seeing her attack fail, the C-rank specter let out another ghostly howl. Xie Yunjun frowned in disgust: "How grating!"
Seeing the specter lose control, Xie Yunjun seized the opportunity. Her right hand pierced the specter's skull. A quick twist, and the C-rank patient specter stopped struggling. Even though she was dead, her body continued to twitch on the floor.
"Ding! Congratulations to player Xie Yunjun for successfully killing the C-rank specter—The Patient with Insanity."
"Ding! Congratulations to player Xie Yunjun for obtaining 100,000 fear points."
"Ding! Congratulations to player Xie Yunjun for obtaining 5,000 ghost coins."
"Ding! Congratulations to player Xie Yunjun for obtaining the C-rank ghost item—Ghost Hair."
