With a slight shimmer in her eyes, Xiao Siyi held the lump of flesh out before Duan Nanyu. Watching the man’s face turn deathly pale in an instant, she could not help but sneer. When he had done such a thing in the first place, why had he never thought of the consequences?

“This is your child! You killed him with your own hands!” Xiao Siyi pressed forward step by step, as though she meant to drive Duan Nanyu to the very edge of ruin.

His pupils dilated. He stared in panic at the bloodied, mangled mass before him, and it felt as though his heart were being carved to pieces.

This was his child. That revolting thing before his eyes was his child.

His mind exploded into chaos. Shoving Xiao Siyi aside, Duan Nanyu strode into the room. The thick stench of blood made him frown involuntarily, but when he saw the woman on the bed—her face white as paper, glaring at him in fury—his heart utterly collapsed.

Yun Xueyan fixed him with a fierce, unblinking stare, forcing herself to keep looking at him. At last she could no longer restrain her emotions and cried out in a hoarse, broken voice, “Duan Nanyu, why did you treat me like this!”

Her nails dug into her flesh to keep herself from fainting. She wanted to watch him regret it.

She was in pain—pain that tore through her heart and lungs. She wanted him to regret it, to regret it for the rest of his life.

Her skin split under her own nails; blood ran down her arm, yet Yun Xueyan seemed not to feel it at all. She knew no pain now, only how to glare at Duan Nanyu.

She wanted him to feel guilty.

“You killed your own child with your own hands. You are a devil! Your suspicion will make you lose everything!” She breathed heavily, her chest tight with suffocation, and the sharp hatred in her eyes did not lessen in the slightest.

Duan Nanyu’s chest jolted; his gaze darkened. He knew every word Yun Xueyan spoke. He understood it all. His brows drew tightly together, yet the foot he had meant to take toward her froze where it was.

“I hate you!” Yun Xueyan sucked in a sharp breath, suddenly shut her eyes, and let her hand fall heavily to her side.

“Siyi! Get in here, quickly!” Feng Xilou hurried to the bedside and pinched the point beneath Yun Xueyan’s nose. Only when Xiao Siyi reached the bed did he step away and stand facing Duan Nanyu.

The gentle smile he usually wore was gone, replaced by an icy frost. There was much in this world he could regard lightly, but not harm done to Yun Xueyan. And now the anger in his heart could no longer be contained. “I don’t think she needs to go back. If she stays in your Prince Xiao Manor, she will know only suffering. I will not allow this to continue any longer.”

He had told himself again and again that Duan Nanyu would treat Yun Xueyan well. But everything he had seen had already proved the truth.

Duan Nanyu’s brows and eyes turned grim and cold. He stared fixedly at Feng Xilou, and when he spoke, his voice was edged with ice. “What did you say? You want to keep her?”

A cold smile touched Feng Xilou’s lips. “That’s right. I will not return her to you again, because you are not worthy.”

A shadow passed over Duan Nanyu’s face, unable to conceal the rage there. Violence surged in his eyes. “Do you truly like her that much?” He had never imagined Feng Xilou would fall for anyone, nor that there would come a day when one person could throw him so completely off balance that he would even turn against him.

“Yes. I like her. I even love her. I cherish her. Compared with the harm you have done, I would give her happiness,” Feng Xilou admitted without the least concealment. His forbearance had already led to an irreparable mistake.

So he could not yield.

Duan Nanyu’s face turned livid, his heart filled with fury, and he roared, “She is my woman, Duan Nanyu’s woman. Even if she dies, she dies as my woman. No one else may touch her. And you—do not even dream of taking her from me!”

“Then let me ask you this—what can you do for her? Hurt her again and again, leave her covered in wounds, even take away her child? Must you wait until she no longer has even the will to live before you are satisfied? Duan Nanyu, one cannot be so selfish!” Feng Xilou gave a cold laugh, his dark eyes blazing as he looked at him.

A flicker of pain passed through Duan Nanyu’s deep-set eyes. Those bloody scenes replayed before him as though on display, searing themselves into his heart, burning with unbearable agony. Jealousy, savage enough to gnaw at the bone, spread through his whole body.

“If you want to quarrel, do it outside. But Prince, I think you had best not remain here. Otherwise, the next time rage strikes at her heart, I cannot guarantee I’ll be able to save her.” With his back to them both, Xiao Siyi drove them off impatiently.

He was a physician. The patient came first. As for the two men behind him, he had no interest in them, nor did he fear them in the slightest. “Now please leave.”

“How can a man be allowed to treat my consort!” Duan Nanyu thundered. The person before him truly did not know his place.

“As you wish. If you don’t trust me, then you can watch her die.” Rising to his feet, Xiao Siyi spread his hands and shrugged, looking utterly indifferent.

Duan Nanyu was so enraged he was struck speechless. He cast one lingering, unwilling glance at the figure on the bed, then flung his sleeve with bitter resentment. “I will come to take her back!”
