Beautiful!
Three icicles shot out along precise trajectories toward the three plump Kodo Beasts, and I couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration!
Although I had no idea how mages controlled their spells, being able to target three enemies at once with such accuracy clearly wasn’t easy. Black Tea’s control was impressive.
White Valentine, who had been watching Black Tea cast her spells, looked quite proud: Black Tea’s mastery over magic was something even third-tier mages might not match, and not only was her control superb, but her magical attack was also formidable among second-tier mages.
A second-tier Chain Icicle spell, with a single-target magic attack approaching 24!
Against weak magical beasts like the plump Kodo, whose magical defense was practically nonexistent, she could deal up to 96 points of damage, though each beast only had 60 HP...
Thud! Thud! Thud!
A series of piercing sounds echoed. The Kodo Beasts’ cries were cut short, frozen mid-wail by the bone-chilling cold.
The battle started quickly and ended even faster…
Still, from this brief skirmish, I discerned some characteristics of mages.
Sensing the elements, gathering magic—the mage had to go through this process before casting a spell… This was what White Valentine had told me…
I kept my gaze fixed on the three corpses, already stiff from the icicles’ freezing power.
The massive icicles were still firmly embedded in the bodies, sending out waves of biting cold. The only large wound, a gaping hole, was instantly frozen, a thin layer of white frost covering most of the corpses. They looked like three enchanting yet eerie ice blossoms blooming in the snow; beautiful and strange.
Though it was my first time seeing real magic, I immediately understood that this was the Chain Icicle’s added effect: the freezing attribute. This was likely the greatest difference between magic and martial skills…
Beyond raw magical damage, mages wielded elemental attacks martial skills couldn’t replicate! No wonder mages were among the most popular professions in Divine Demon Continent—they truly were unique.
Just the unpredictable magical effects, the dazzling spells, and attacks as powerful as those of a warrior, were already deeply appealing to women who loved novelty and competition.

Perhaps female players couldn’t match men in terms of stamina and thus couldn’t become as strong as their male counterparts, but when it came to the unfamiliar profession of mage, who was stronger was anyone’s guess!
Black Tea’s instant defeat of three plump Kodo Beasts proved that this class was by no means inferior to warriors.
What puzzled me, though, was that all along it had been White Valentine making the moves, while Black Tea never acted…
Likewise, I hadn’t seen White Valentine use any warrior skills along the way!
Just as I was puzzling over this…
“Little Lin, did you see that? Isn’t your sister-in-law amazing?” White Valentine turned to me with pride written all over his face. Clearly a devoted husband—who knows what sort of ‘training’ Black Tea gave him at home…
I nodded honestly, and his grin grew even wider as he laughed:
“Good, since you’re so honest, I’ll give you a gift later.”
“A gift? What kind of gift?”
I was stunned, and quickly shook my head:
“Brother, you and my sister-in-law have already helped me so much by leveling with me. I can’t possibly accept anything more.”
“Don’t be so polite; we’re family, aren’t we? Besides, we’ve made plenty of gains tonight. It’s settled.”
Just as I was about to protest further, Black Tea smiled and cut me off:
“All right, Little Lin, don’t refuse. It’s just low-level gear for you to use while you level up. If you feel bad, just return it after you’re done, or pay us back with something better when you’re higher level. Honestly, we’re probably getting the better end of the deal… What do you think?”
Seeing how determined she was, I could only shake my head and smile wryly:
“You always get your way, how could I refuse?” I paused for a moment, then said, “By the way, Sis, what other water spells are there? Show me a few—I want to broaden my horizons…” I’d heard there were magical beasts that could use spells, and now was the perfect opportunity to learn from Black Tea.

Black Tea pondered for a moment and nodded:
“Alright, but I’ll need a minute.” With that, she suddenly sat down on the ground, leaving me momentarily stunned—surely casting a single spell didn’t require a rest?
White Valentine explained,
“You might not know this, but at night, you always have to stay alert when you’re outside. Most importantly, you mustn’t carelessly use skills or magic that consume MP… Unless you’re in danger, it’s best to keep your MP at full, so you’re ready to defend yourself if something happens.”
His words startled me, and I glanced around at the darkness nearby. “Didn’t you say Kodo Beasts aren’t dangerous?”
“Compared to open areas like the Slime Prairie, this place is relatively safe. But at night, the boundaries between monsters’ territories blur, and higher-level beasts can appear here. Since Black Tea and I are only second-tier, we have to keep our MP full.”
White Valentine’s explanation put my mind at ease, but…
I frowned and asked, “But Sis only used one spell; she shouldn’t have used much MP… How long does she have to rest?” As I spoke, I glanced at Black Tea, who was sitting and recovering MP. She shook her head,
“It didn’t use much, but MP recovers much more slowly than HP—generally, you get 1 point every ten seconds. Chain Icicle is a second-tier area spell; it takes 6 MP, which is why I said you’d have to wait a minute.”
“A minute… that’s fine, safety first!” I nodded. You really do need to be careful out here. I asked about HP regeneration too, and learned it was about one point every four to five seconds—twice as fast as MP.
“Why does HP regenerate so quickly, and there are healing potions too… Oh, is there a potion that restores MP, like the small healing potion?”
“There is, but mana potions are incredibly rare. For frail mages, they’re practically a second life… Unfortunately, shops don’t carry them. You can only get them from killing bosses or doing quests, which makes them expensive on the market!”
“…How expensive?”
White Valentine chuckled. “If it were before… it would have been about a thousand gold coins…”
