Chapter 112: I Told You to Let Someone Else Take the Blame!
“Damn! Why is it you? No wonder I haven’t seen you around lately—so you’ve taken up motorcycling now?” Yang Meng’s eyes widened as she stared at the girl before her in Zhang San’s lounge.
Who else could it be but Long Xixiang?
Long Xixiang lifted her chin confidently. “Why can’t it be me?”
Quan Yajing, curious, asked, “You two know each other?”
Yang Meng gave a wry smile. “I was wondering who was practicing riding in their own yard. If it’s her, no surprise. Let me introduce—this is the illustrious Miss Long Er, the second young lady of the famed Long Group! Xixiang, what are you up to now?”
After Yang Meng’s introduction, everyone looked at Long Xixiang in astonishment. Long Xixiang was a legend in Handong City; the name “Long Xixiang” was synonymous with the epitome of beauty and wealth. Yet, she usually stayed out of the public eye, focused on managing the Long Group. This was the first time many had seen her in person.
Quan Yajing asked, “Mengmeng, you’re close with Miss Long? That’s unbelievable. How could she know you?”
Yang Meng patted her chest proudly. “Is it strange that I know Long Teng and, by extension, Long Xixiang? We’re very close. Don’t underestimate me—I have a vast network!”
Would Yang Meng pass up a chance to brag?
Long Xixiang pouted. “Hmph, you didn’t even recognize me after hanging out together for so long, and you still say we’re close?”
Yang Meng sighed. “You were all covered up in that big helmet—who could recognize you?”
Long Xixiang pointed to a helmet on the nearby table. “That’s your own helmet—you didn’t recognize it?”
Yang Meng shrugged. “I thought it was the same model. Why are you learning to ride a motorcycle?”
Long Xixiang’s almond-shaped eyes widened. “Who was it that threw me off the bike and ran off? I’m learning to ride just to beat you!”
“Well, you don’t stand a chance,” Yang Meng replied casually, chatting easily with Long Xixiang. Everyone watching, except Ling Feng, was stunned.
Ling Feng knew about Yang Meng’s good relationship with the Long family; they’d even been to the ‘Focus’ club together. But the others found it hard to believe—these two seemed worlds apart. Yet their banter suggested an unusual closeness.
What’s going on here?
“Hey, Xixiang, I helped you out earlier. You’re not even grateful and now you’re blaming me?” Yang Meng said to Long Xixiang.
Long Xixiang snorted coldly. “You didn’t even recognize me, so why should I thank you? It just means you tend to meddle when trouble arises!”
Yang Meng slapped her thigh. “Not only did I not recognize you—‘Crazy’ didn’t either! With that outfit, no one could!”
Long Xixiang retorted, “I don’t blame Ling Feng for not recognizing me—we only met once. But you?”
Yang Meng wanted to say they’d only met a few times, but sometimes reason just didn’t work with this woman. Noticing Ling Feng smirking nearby, she glanced at him and said, “Xixiang, I’m telling you, dressed like that with the helmet, even Old Master Long Mingyang wouldn’t recognize you! ‘Crazy’ even asked if you were a man or a woman! He said your chest looks just like your dad’s!”
“You, Yang!” Long Xixiang and Ling Feng shouted in unison.
Ling Feng looked awkward. “Miss Long, it’s a misunderstanding…”
Long Xixiang snapped back, “Crazy, this has nothing to do with you! Yang, today I’m going to teach you a lesson!” With that, she balled her fists and charged at Yang Meng.
Yang Meng dodged, protesting, “Hey! Be reasonable! It wasn’t me who said it—it was Crazy! If you want to fight, fight him!”
“I don’t believe he said that—it must’ve been you! Only you have such a sharp tongue! Trying to pin it on someone else?” Long Xixiang ignored Yang Meng’s protests and kept chasing her. Ling Feng just shrugged helplessly and took a membership form from Zhang San, filling out the club registration.
“Xixiang! Stop! What if you break something?”
“If it breaks, I’ll pay for it!”
“Having money isn’t an excuse to act like a shrew!”
“You dare call me a shrew?”
“Loser spinster! With your figure, you belong at Children’s Day!”
“Yang! I’m going to kill you today!”
Everyone gaped as Yang Meng and Long Xixiang played a fierce game of ‘Eagle Catches the Chick’ in the lounge. Yang Meng darted around while taunting Long Xixiang.
“Officer Ling, is that really Long Xixiang?” Qiao Yu asked Ling Feng.
She voiced the thoughts of everyone present.
Long Xixiang’s name was legendary in Handong City—terms like “refined lady,” “graceful and intelligent,” “accomplished,” “calm and capable”—all were attached to her. Yet the furious woman chasing Yang Meng with a broomstick didn’t fit that image at all.
Ling Feng smiled wryly. “If you mean Miss Long of the Long Group, Long Teng’s younger sister, then yes, it’s her. When I met her, she was gentle and poised. This is the first time I’ve seen her like this.”
Quan Yajing blinked. “If I were Xixiang, I’d be furious hearing Mengmeng say those things.”
The women there nodded in agreement.
“Hey! You can say whatever you want about things, but not make up stories! Ling Feng said those things!” Yang Meng’s sharp ears caught the conversation as she fled. “Ah!”
Long Xixiang struck Yang Meng’s head with her broomstick. “If you falsely accuse Ling Feng or make others take the blame, I won’t let it slide.”
Ling Feng looked sympathetically at Yang Meng. She’s already labeled you; nothing I can do now.
“Third Brother, get me a glass of orange juice. I’ll toast Mengmeng— a true warrior!” Ling Feng told Zhang San.
“Crazy, you’re dead meat!” Yang Meng’s voice rang out.
“Wait!” Qiao Yu turned to Zhang San. “Third Brother, you must know Miss Long’s identity!”
Long Xixiang had to register her real identity to get a motorcycle license, so Zhang San certainly knew.
Zhang San smiled. “Miss Long made me promise to keep it secret. She doesn’t want anyone to know she broke my glass. We signed a confidentiality agreement.”
“A confidentiality agreement?” Quan Yajing was puzzled. “Third Brother, don’t joke. When did you have confidentiality agreements here?”
Zhang San replied calmly, “Give me enough money, and you’d have one too.”
Quan Yajing gave a thumbs-up. “Third Brother, impressive!”
Zhang San said, “What’s so impressive? I think Yang Meng’s the real legend! Are you sure he’s not a reincarnated monkey?”
He pointed to the center of the hall. Everyone had been ignoring Yang Meng and Long Xixiang’s chase, but now they looked where Zhang San directed—and burst out laughing.
Yang Meng had somehow climbed onto the ceiling, clinging upside down to a concrete beam like Spider-Man in his red-and-blue suit and mask. Long Xixiang stood below, broom in hand, jumping to strike him. The beam was too high; she couldn’t reach.
“How did he get up there?” Qiao Yu stared in disbelief.
Quan Yajing said, “I want to know how he’s hanging there! Ling Feng, are people from your hometown like this?”
Ling Feng shook his head desperately. “No way. We all grew up in the forest, but none of us can do what he does. I thought I knew him best, but now I’m more confused than ever.”
Zhang San cleared his throat, raising his voice, “Miss Long, maybe you should let Yang down first. You can’t hit what you can’t reach.”
Long Xixiang nodded. “Yang, come down now!”
Yang Meng shook his head. “Only if you swear not to bother me afterward. Otherwise, I’m staying up here!”
Long Xixiang snorted. “You’re the one causing trouble! Come down so I can vent on you!”
“A real man doesn’t back down!” Yang Meng replied. “I could hang here for days with no problem! You can’t do a thing to me! Swear to leave me alone, or I’m not coming down!”
“Oh? You really think I can’t do anything to you?” Long Xixiang glanced around, spotted some glass cups on the bar, and angrily grabbed one, flinging it at Yang Meng on the ceiling.
Yang Meng caught it with his free hand. “Haha, you missed!”
Long Xixiang smirked coldly, grabbed another glass, and hurled it again.
Yang Meng clamped his legs around the beam, catching the second cup with his other hand.
“Haha, still can’t hit me!” he teased, sticking out his tongue.
Long Xixiang grew even more furious, grabbed a third glass, and threw it.
Two cups, two hands—how would you catch them both?
Yang Meng flipped gracefully, catching the third cup between his feet. “Haha, caught it again. Ah…”
He caught the cup, but forgot he was holding onto the beam. Suddenly, he fell heavily from the ceiling, crashing onto a wooden table below. The table shattered with a loud crash.
“Mengmeng!” The sudden turn alarmed many, and several rushed over to check on him.
Long Xixiang was stunned, quickly running to Yang Meng’s side. “Yang Meng, are you okay? Are you crazy? Why did you try to catch that cup?”
No one answered. Yang Meng remained still.
“Is he alright? Should we call an ambulance?” Long Xixiang grew anxious, but no one replied; everyone just stared at the motionless Yang Meng.
Just as Long Xixiang was at a loss, Yang Meng suddenly sat up. “Haha, the cups didn’t even break! Third Brother, have Xixiang pay for this table. She’s got plenty of money!”
