Chapter 121: The Establishment of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I must attack the person controlling the telekinesis!"
Logan made up his mind. Ignoring the pain from his bone claws, he delivered a forceful blow that sent Murasame flying several meters away, then accelerated, sprinting to close the distance with Yutong.
Yutong raised her eyes. Under her telekinetic control, Murasame lost its momentum; at full speed, it could not keep up with Logan’s pace.
"I win!" Logan whispered. Having lunged within a meter of Yutong, he tensed his arm for a brief moment and thrust forward with his bone claws.
Just as his sharp claws were about to descend, Yutong’s eyes suddenly glowed with a silvery light. Her small hands spread slightly to the sides. "Big brother said, one must always keep an ace up their sleeve."
*Boom!*
A shockwave generated by immense telekinetic power rippled outward from Yutong’s body. Logan’s eyes widened as he realized his bone claws had stalled, unable to advance even a fraction of an inch. An invisible barrier of air repelled him, and he fell backward, crashing onto the grass.
"Is this the telekinetic barrier capable of withstanding the aftermath of a nuclear explosion? This is just..."
Logan had no time to think. Behind him, Murasame renewed its offensive. The cold, shimmering light of the blade forced him into a clumsy, rolling retreat. The grass where he had been standing was shredded as if by a lawnmower, leaving a bald patch.
"So, the strongest among us isn't the Wolf King, but Red Eye?"
The surrounding children murmured, their gazes shifting as they watched Logan fall onto the defensive.
Realizing the situation was dire, Logan performed a graceful backflip to his feet. He voluntarily retracted his bone claws and grabbed the rapidly slashing Murasame with his bare hands.
He gripped the hilt with one hand and caught the razor-sharp blade with the other, unprotected. The telekinetically-charged Murasame vibrated and hummed, the invisible force pulling at it, trying to break free from his grasp.
"Got you." Logan steadied himself, using raw strength to lock the blade firmly in place.
Yutong frowned, channeling her will with all her might, yet she could not regain control of Murasame.
The duel between the two began to devolve into a pure test of strength against telekinesis.
Logan dragged the violently vibrating sword, stepping closer with every stride, ignoring the blood flowing from his lacerated palms. Yutong, unwilling to concede, lifted her small face, the silver light in her eyes shifting toward a faint crimson, her black hair fluttering as her telekinesis bordered on losing control.
Just as the distance between them closed to less than two meters and the watching children held their breath in high tension, a powerful, steady voice suddenly echoed from outside the lawn: "Stop, that’s enough!"
The moment the words fell, Kyle moved into the fray. He walked with blinding speed between the two, one hand supporting Yutong while the other rested on Logan’s shoulder.
Logan exhaled and released the katana, collapsing backward onto the grass from exhaustion. Yutong, having depleted her mental reserves, went limp and was quickly caught by Lucy, who rushed forward to embrace her.
Looking at Yutong in Lucy’s arms, Kyle offered some instruction: "I gave you Murasame to increase the intensity of your telekinetic attacks, not to limit the versatility of your control. Just now, when Murasame was restricted, you could have simply abandoned it and shifted to controlling other objects in the surroundings for a secondary strike."
"As for you, Logan," Kyle mused, turning to the man lying on the ground, "while telekinesis does happen to counter those of us with physical enhancements, and the carbonadium material effectively counters your healing factor, you could still have relied on your superhuman physique and technique to overwhelm her earlier. Use your speed so that the opponent’s reactions cannot keep up with you."
The battle, while appearing like a clash of gods, had in reality been too clumsy and rigid, failing to fully highlight the potential of their respective abilities.
However, after this fight, Kyle had thought of ways to address their respective flaws.
Yutong’s telekinesis was strong, but her physical form was too fragile. He could pair her with a [Super Agent] ability card to strengthen her constitution while extending her pitifully short lifespan.
As for Logan, in a one-on-one fight—unless he faced someone like Yutong—he could absolutely unleash two hundred percent of his combat power. There wasn't a suitable card for him yet.
"If there were enough Adamantium, I could push his body to a whole new level... Wolverine..." Kyle pondered inwardly.
Under his gaze, Logan felt his hair stand on end. He quickly rose from the ground, clutching his injured left palm and saying he needed to get it bandaged.
"Alright. Everyone head back and rest. I have guests to attend to," Kyle reminded them. Only then did the people in the manor notice that three outsiders were still watching from the edge of the backyard lawn.
Perhaps having witnessed such an inhuman battle, they were currently standing in a daze, their imaginations thoroughly overturned.
Inside the manor, on the second floor in the reception hall.
"Kyle, I thought you were the only superman in the world. I didn't expect to see two more here..." Joseph remarked with a sigh.
Fury chimed in, "Indeed! I saw that Logan in Germany before, but I had no idea he was this strong—being able to extend beastly bone claws from his hands to fight."
Howard smiled with gentlemanly poise; he was the calmest of the three. Having witnessed many of Kyle’s abilities, he was no longer easily surprised.
"Kyle, why not let that Logan, or that little girl, help me out?" Fury asked impatiently.
"Why? Has the department the President mentioned, aimed at targeting the remnants of HYDRA hiding across the world, been established?" Kyle asked with mild interest.
"The UN Council has approved the application, but the specific logistics haven't been finalized, and the name is still tentative. I came here to hear your thoughts. After all, this department originated because of you," Fury asked. "What do you think of the name 'S.W.O.R.D.'?"
S.W.O.R.D.?
Kyle, legs crossed on the sofa, was dumbfounded. It took him a long while to recover from the name, and he hesitated, "Would 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' be better?"
Fury and Howard were stunned for a moment, both sentimentally recalling a man in a bodysuit carrying a shield. Fury agreed, "That works. Let’s call it S.H.I.E.L.D. Its full name will be the 'Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division'."
"This newly established S.H.I.E.L.D. is no mere showpiece. The President has ordered the military to fully cooperate with this mysterious department. We’ve been given the green light on all the tedious political procedures," Joseph said with a sigh.
"After all, it bears your name, Kyle—the Symbol of Peace." Fury looked at Kyle with confidence. "You are the designated Director. If you are there, I believe S.H.I.E.L.D. will become the world’s most solid shield."
Kyle shook his head. "There is no one more suitable for the position of the first Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. than you."
"Then at least hold an honorary position?" Fury wasn't giving up, spreading his hands. "Without you, S.H.I.E.L.D. will lose its strongest backing right at its inception."
Kyle turned to Howard. "Do you hold a position at S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
Howard nodded. "They want to hire me as the Chief Technology Officer, but Stark Industries is too busy. I only agreed to serve as a technical consultant for the Strategic Division."
Kyle calmly sipped his red wine and smiled. "Then I shall be the future 'Strategic Consultant' of S.H.I.E.L.D."
