“Hahaha, so this formation has such a use?!” Ou Xinlai laughed heartily, having thought that the Violet Lightning Formation had just been destroyed. To her surprise, not only was the formation intact, it had actually transformed into a portable pocket dimension, allowing her to store outside objects at will, all controlled by her thoughts. She truly felt as if she had stumbled upon a priceless treasure.

Glancing at the fiery fruits fiercely guarded by the old ghost in the blue robe, Ou Xinlai stroked her chin, plucked one, and ate it. After all, it was the Violet Lightning Formation that had led her here, so these burning fruits probably weren’t harmful.

After eating one, her lingering hunger vanished instantly. More importantly, the pain left by the old ghost’s grip disappeared completely. Ou Xinlai’s eyes brightened—these were indeed superior treasures.

Her hunger not yet sated, she ate three in a row. Looking at the heaps of fruit on the wall, she felt no worry about going hungry in the future.

Though the sight of these burning fruits was intimidating, the flames did her no harm. Even better, the flesh tasted as sweet and clear as a mountain spring—refreshing, sweet but never cloying, with an especially delightful flavor.

However, just as she finished her third fruit, she felt a tug on her left hand. The Violet Lightning Formation suddenly activated, and with a whoosh, all the flaming fruits—like a cascade of cherries—were sucked inside.

Ou Xinlai was startled. She hadn’t willed the formation to collect the fruits. Stranger still, the scene wasn’t like the formation simply storing them—it was more as if the formation was “eating” them!

Sure enough, when she tried to summon the fruits back out, there was no response at all.

“What the hell are you? Able to seek treasure, store things, and now you even eat fruit? You didn’t bring me here just to eat these fruits yourself, did you?!” Ou Xinlai voiced her suspicion, beginning to truly wonder if the Violet Lightning Formation had brought her here for its own sake, not hers.

“Can formations think now? Have they grown a mind?” Her head was full of questions—the more she examined the Violet Lightning Formation, the more extraordinary it seemed.

Back at the Ou family, she had encountered various formations, but never one like this. The ancient Sanskrit script radiated an aura of age and mystery. Staring at the Violet Lightning Formation, she even fancied she could hear the ancient sigh of an old man.

Startled, she muttered, “Hey, you really are a strange thing, aren’t you?”

Though the formation was odd and seemed tinged with a sinister air, Ou Xinlai did not abandon it. At least she didn’t feel it would harm her mind.

The secluded cave was now empty—the strange fiery fruits all devoured by the formation. Naturally, she had to seek treasures elsewhere.

In the Ancient Cave of Chiyou, unless you chose a deserted path, there was always some commotion.

Everyone had their own fortune—just as the old ghost in the blue robe was lucky to find those burning fruits. If not for the guidance of the Violet Lightning Formation, Ou Xinlai might not have seized his opportunity.

Just then, as she flew on her sword, she heard the clang of weapons and the crackle of powers colliding in battle.

“Li Chengfeng, you fiend of the demonic sect, hand it over at once or you’ll never leave here alive!” a man shouted.

Li Chengfeng chuckled. “If I hand it over, would you really let me live?” He sneered, “You call me a fiend, but does that make you paragons of virtue? Isn’t it just a case of many bullying the few, cloaked in self-righteousness? You call it justice, but it’s nothing but robbery. Compared to you vile hypocrites, we of the demonic sect at least have the courage to face what we do!”

“A defeated scoundrel still trying to argue!” another man spat. “Don’t be deceived by this thief’s words. If such a treasure fell into the hands of a demonic cultivator, it would only spell disaster for the world. We seize it for the sake of the innocents who would otherwise suffer.”

Ji Liehuo, his dark eyes gleaming with greed, was among them. Though young, Li Chengfeng was already an adept of the eighth level, while Ji Liehuo, now forty, had struggled to break through the seventh.

No matter. He couldn’t defeat Li Chengfeng alone, but with so many besieging him, surely they could prevail.

“Don’t worry, everyone! The fiend was wounded by ancient battle energy during the struggle for the treasure. If we unite, we can bring him down!” Ji Liehuo, well aware of Li Chengfeng’s abilities, had tailed him closely, watching how he obtained the treasure, and then quickly alerted the others to seize it by force.

After all, since he’d discovered Li Chengfeng, Ji Liehuo was determined to claim the lion’s share.

Li Chengfeng sneered, unwilling to die so easily. Why should he hand over what he’d risked his life to obtain—especially when his foes used such underhanded means?

No! He couldn’t lose. He would not give up the treasure!

Glancing about, he suddenly spotted a shadow crouched in a corner. With a blast of fireballs—each one a pulsing orb of flame—he hurled them at Ji Liehuo.

Ji Liehuo was greedy but not brave. Even knowing his foe was wounded, he dared not take the risk, dodging aside and letting the others deal with Li Chengfeng while he hoped to profit from the chaos.

“Don’t move—or I’ll kill her!” Li Chengfeng seized the shadow, clamping his hand around her throat. The unlucky soul caught in the crossfire was, of course, none other than Ou Xinlai, who had unwittingly stumbled into this storm.
