Chapter 15: Why Don’t You Play by the Rules? (Please Vote!)
“Ying—”
Ansheng, adorned in gold and silver, raised a paw and lightly tapped the food cover on the dining table. With a proud tilt of his head, he struck an utterly confident pose and slowly extended his front leg, adorned with golden bracelets.
“Ah Qing... who is this coming from across the way?” Yu Zhenghong, father of Yu Xueqing, saw the white fox so brazenly causing a ruckus in his home but was momentarily stunned by the fox’s noble aura and pride.
“He... he says he’s hungry and wants to eat now.”
After recovering from her initial shock, Yu Xueqing quickly translated for her father: “He says he smelled the aroma of our food and wants to dine here.”
While explaining, Yu Xueqing glanced longingly at the unfamiliar Ansheng but suppressed her doubts since her father was present.
“This noble fox... must have become some kind of spirit,” Yu Zhenghong said gravely, shielding his wife and daughter behind him. He had come to this conclusion after careful thought.
He didn’t question his daughter’s translation. After all, Yu Zhenghong knew that when she was little, Yu Xueqing could play with all sorts of poultry and even communicate with fierce dogs and lion-headed geese.
Ah Qing had a knack for getting along with animals.
Yu Zhenghong trusted his daughter’s words, but facing the sudden arrival of this noble fox, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
The fox before him exuded such wealth and pride. Its eyes, slanted like a human’s, seemed to carry a hint of reproach. It softly hummed with measured contempt: “How could you have a feast without inviting me?”
Ansheng’s grand entrance completely shattered Yu Zhenghong’s worldview.
“So... does the noble fox want to eat?” Yu Xueqing, puzzled by Ansheng’s transformation, went to the dining room and lifted the dish cover to reveal the food.
Yu Xueqing’s mother approached out of curiosity and examined the fox peering through the window.
“Ying—”
Ansheng proudly showed off the new clothes he was wearing in front of Yu Xueqing.
“Master~ I just went to find Fu to play, but right at the gate, some auntie pinned me to the ground and hissed...” Suddenly, the fox’s words translated into Yu Xueqing’s mind, leaving her stunned.
What on earth? Her little Ansheng was pinned down and hissed at by a strange woman when going out?
And what was this hissing about?
“Honey...”
Chen Peipei, Yu Xueqing’s mother, touched the fox’s Chanel-marked leather jacket and hurriedly called her husband over:
“Honey... come quickly, the noble fox’s luxury items all seem genuine. That leather jacket looks like it was cut from a Chanel handbag and carefully sewn by hand...”
“There are even loose threads on the edges.”
As Yu Xueqing fed the fox, Chen Peipei began to study the fox’s luxurious accessories.
She was well-versed in high-end designer and limited-edition items.
Unable to afford them herself and with an empty wallet, Chen Peipei often browsed online to satisfy her cravings, inadvertently becoming an expert on luxury goods.
Chen Peipei summoned her husband and activated a visual recognition app on her phone. One scan of the fox’s jacket revealed a leather pattern that matched a handbag priced at forty thousand.
Yu Zhenghong and Chen Peipei were speechless.
Their pupils constricted sharply. Chen Peipei glanced blankly at her husband before aiming the app at the orange collar around the fox’s neck.
The pet collar featured a small golden lock on the front and a watch attached to the side.
A scan of the lock showed a similar object—a bright orange handbag priced at 172,000.
“No way! Absolutely impossible!” Yu Zhenghong exclaimed, dumbfounded. He pulled out his own phone, used its object recognition feature, and scoffed:
“What kind of household lets their pet wear something worth a mid-range joint-venture car? That’s ridiculous!”
“Beep—”
A purchase page popped up on the screen.
“Secondhand ‘Moonphase’ watch, 95% new: 4 million.”
“First purchase discount 188, save 3,000 on orders over 50,000.”
“Explosive price: 3,996,812.”
Yu Zhenghong was utterly stupefied. As he handed his phone to his wife, his mind was blank.
What kind of miraculous watch was this, capable of prolonging life? Its secondhand price was four million.
Did he look like someone in need of a 3,000 discount coupon?
And it was even above the official price! Was this fair?
Chen Peipei glanced at the screen, staggered back, and sank onto a chair by the sideboard, gasping heavily, her face drained of color.
“It... it really is the noble fox!”
Yu Zhenghong whispered to himself, trying to calm his shock.
This was no ordinary noble fox.
If time rewound a hundred years, saying this white fox belonged to royal kin wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Dressed in an outfit worth the price of two apartments, Yu Zhenghong dared not imagine how many properties this family owned.
He feared that if he thought any further, he would be tempted to remove the pet collar from the noble fox’s neck and put it on himself, meekly enduring the burdens of wealth in place of the white fox.
“Ah Qing...”
Chen Peipei, having regained her composure, looked at Yu Xueqing with concern and lowered her voice to speak gently:
“Carefully get up now. Don’t startle the noble fox.”
“The items on it are quite expensive. By the way, if possible, take off its jacket to avoid any oil stains from the food spoiling the leather.”
Ansheng, dressed in finery, had completely shattered Yu Xueqing’s parents’ worldview.
Or rather, if Ansheng knew the items he wore were worth nearly five million, he would be dumbfounded as well.
At present, Lin Ying was in no mood for anything, even neglecting basic survival tasks.
Ansheng asked to borrow props for a showy face-off, and Lin Ying simply gave him all the branded goods.
She didn’t care if she got them back; after all, she was already in this state, so being deceived didn’t matter.
Moreover, the disinterested Lin Ying was somewhat curious about why Ansheng needed to borrow luxury goods.
What matter could be so important that a fox would come to their home asking to borrow expensive items to show off and humiliate others?
“Mom? What’s wrong?”
Yu Xueqing, feeding the fox, was called aside by her mother Chen Peipei. Yu Zhenghong quietly sidestepped the fox and joined his wife and daughter.
That fox... was it even a fox?
If it were a divine immortal incarnate, Yu Zhenghong would believe it now and immediately rush to burn two bundles of incense.
“Do you think... that fox might have run away from the Lin family?” Chen Peipei gathered the family and proposed a bold theory.
The fox was far too wealthy. Chen Peipei had no idea who could keep a fox like this.
The only possibility she could think of was the Lin family.
“In my opinion... we should report it to the public security bureau!” Yu Zhenghong shook his head.
“The amount involved is too huge.”
Upon hearing this, both Yu Xueqing and Ansheng were startled.
“No, why aren’t you following the usual procedure!” Ansheng quickly whimpered.
“We’re dressed so luxuriously.”
“Shouldn’t you think about keeping me at home temporarily and then posting a lost pet notice to earn some compensation for custody, feeding, and finding rewards?”
“Old Deng, are you not up for the game?”
Under normal circumstances, Yu Zhenghong might have maximized benefits as Ansheng suggested.
But the problem was Ansheng was far too wealthy, with valuables so precious Yu Zhenghong dared not let him stay at home.
In Yu Zhenghong’s eyes, Ansheng’s presence now was tantamount to a life sentence.
“Report it to the public security bureau!” Yu Zhenghong said firmly.
“Ying ying ying—”
