Gu Li looked up; the smoke enveloped the two of them, obscuring his figure. In the cramped carriage, she had never felt so suffocated. She touched her neck, wincing from the pain.
In the next moment, a cool hand pressed down on hers. Sensing his breath drawing closer, she instinctively recoiled.
But the man, already angered, refused to let her evade him. Suddenly, he grabbed her hand, pinned it, seized her jaw, and leaned close to her face. His dark eyes fixed on hers with a sharp, scrutinizing gaze.
So close, the overwhelming intensity left Gu Li disoriented. Her heart raced; her hands clenched the hem of his shirt tightly. Suddenly, fear surged within her, and she shook her head instinctively.
This simple gesture instantly softened the man’s sullen expression. He loosened his grip—it was so simple.
She had never been with Lu Zhaobei.
Whether in the eight years before her rebirth or after, Lu Zhaobei had never touched her. Pride ruled him; even their kisses had been merely brief and superficial.
He pulled a lip balm-like plaster from his pocket, opened it, twisted it a few times, and applied it to her neck. Gu Li felt a coolness there, easing the pain slightly.
He moved gracefully, rubbing the plaster in circles on her neck. Seeing her frown, his touch gradually softened.
Blushing, Gu Li took the plaster from his hand.
He said nothing. Summoning courage, she looked up and said, “Mr. Fu, I don’t think I’m worthy of you. Maybe we should divorce.”
His hand, holding the cigarette, paused. His expression was cool and unreadable, as if forged in steel.
“Why?” he demanded.
He smoked and exhaled smoke, his allure irresistible.
Gu Li averted her gaze, considering before replying, “I just realized there’s a gap between us. We’re not suited for each other.”
Fu Yancheng’s eyes slid from her face to her legs. She wore a pleated skirt, revealing long, pale legs that dazzled in the light.
“Not suited?” he repeated.
“But signing the papers only cancels the agreement. I’ll still help with your illness and your family...” She trailed off.
His lips silenced her words.
His kissing was skillful, practiced—clearly a seasoned veteran. Any woman would lose herself in his tenderness.
If not for thinking of Muli, she might have succumbed too. Gu Li pushed him away, but Fu Yancheng felt his body’s response deepen. He held her head down, kissing harder.
She was the first—and only—woman to arouse him. He was stirred, changed, desperate for more.
“Mr. Fu!” Gu Li, dizzy from the kiss but still rational, pushed hard against him, gasping, “I want a divorce!”
Her reason held firm even as her conviction wavered.
She felt that if she continued, she would be utterly bewitched.
Fu Yancheng lowered his head, looking at the woman beneath him who was clearly lost in the moment, yet still spoke coldly. Frowning, he whispered huskily in her ear, “I feel it too. I think we’re perfect for each other.”

“I’ll bring you the divorce papers. Please sign them.” Gu Li no longer wished to speak, pushing him away, opening the car door, and leaving.
If she didn’t leave now, she feared she wouldn’t be able to.
Fu Yancheng watched her flee upon stepping out, his expression icy.
Did she truly hate him so much?
Could her attitude have shifted so drastically in a single morning?
He refused to believe it.
He wouldn’t let the one who stirred his desires vanish into thin air.
Divorce?
Gu Li, do you think marrying Fu Yancheng means you can escape?
He lowered his gaze and noticed her ID card and medical license on the seat. He picked them up, studying the photo—a pure, radiant smile he had never seen directed at him before.
Leaning against the window, smoking, he admired her quietly.
The rain in Hanjing was dense and cold.
The slender figure who had disappeared meant nothing to him—there was nothing Fu Yancheng could not have.
His phone rang. It was his assistant Wang Ye. He answered, “What’s the matter?”
“President Fu, Lu Zhaobei wants to pursue investment cooperation with the company!”
“Announce publicly: cancel all cooperation with Lu Zhaobei.”
This declaration would erase Lu Zhaobei’s name in Hanjing. From now on, no law firm in the city would dare work with him, effectively cutting off all his resources.
...
Gu Li returned to the Chinese Medicine Hospital.
Muli hurried over, concerned. “How’s your neck? Did he sign?”
Gu Li’s face was pale. She shook her head. “He refused.”
Muli hugged her sympathetically and offered advice. “Don’t be discouraged. There’s a cooling-off period for divorces anyway. Honestly, it’s all because of Lu Zhaobei and Gu Mo... Hey, Gu Li, why are your lips red and swollen again?”
Gu Li panicked, covering her mouth, blushing as the image of that man pressing her down and kissing her flashed through her mind.
She lowered her head in silence. Muli teased with a laugh, “Don’t tell me...”
“Shut up!” Gu Li hurriedly covered her mouth, glaring angrily. “Don’t say it.”
Muli pleaded and nodded. When Gu Li let go, Muli leaned in and whispered with a mischievous smile, “Isn’t he sterile? How could he still...”

Gu Li raised her hand to strike, and Muli quickly fled.
Gu Li chuckled, then lowered her head, touching her lips.
Ouch!
It hurt terribly.
Damn that man!
Remembering his desperate kiss, as if he wanted to consume her whole, she thought she should have slapped that shameless pervert then and there!
“Gu Li!”
Startled by the loud call at the door, Gu Li looked up sharply and saw Gu Mo entering, furious, her gaze murderous.
Gu Mo?
Gu Li frowned. “You’re not welcome here. Leave!”
Gu Mo found her pretentious expression disgusting. She dropped her bag on a stool, came up to Gu Li, and pointed at her nose, shouting, “So what if you married Fu Yancheng, that sterile man? You think you’re so great, climbing the ladder and trying to oppress me and Brother Zhaobei?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I have patients to see. Get out!” Gu Li wanted no quarrel and tried to drag her away.
Gu Mo immediately shook off her hand and pushed her, teeth clenched with hatred. “Brother Zhaobei only lightly touched you, right?”
“Don’t you realize Fu Yancheng’s words could ruin my Brother Zhaobei?”
“I’m your sister. Why are you treating me like this?”
Her loud outburst drew the attention of patients, doctors, and nurses crowding outside the office door. Hearing the commotion, Muli rushed out to shield Gu Li and snapped at Gu Mo, “You and Lu Zhaobei wronged Gu Li first. You’re her sister, yet you have no respect. Get lost! This is a hospital!”
“If she dares ruin me and Brother Zhaobei, today I’ll teach her a lesson for Mom and Dad.”
Seeing Gu Mo rush forward, Gu Li pushed her away sharply, fearing Muli might get hurt. That gave Gu Mo the chance she needed.
Gu Mo grabbed Gu Li’s hair as she approached. Gu Li frowned, trying to push her away but also pulling at her hair. Soon, the two were wrestling.
The chaotic scene and the crowd outside spread rumors throughout the entire hospital in no time.
That evening, Fu Yancheng came to the Chinese Medicine Hospital to see someone. Unexpectedly, he saw Gu Li cradled in Muli’s arms, hooked to an IV, her face bruised and weak.
His expression was grave, brows slightly knitted as he spoke in a low voice, “What happened?”
