Munashi and Mutan exchanged a glance. Fu Yancheng was notorious for his cold demeanor, yet surprisingly, he showed a gentle softness toward Gu Li. Fu Yancheng frowned slightly as he held her icy hand, but Gu Li noticed the eyes of the onlookers fixed on them, and her cheeks flushed instantly. She quickly pulled her hand away.

Fu Yancheng looked displeased, raising an eyebrow at her resistance, then glanced back at the people behind him.

“Dr. Gu, do you know how to shoot?” Fu Yancheng rolled up his sleeves, revealing strong, muscular arms. His dark eyes burned hot as they locked onto Gu Li.

Gu Li shook her head, wanting to avoid the topic. She truly didn’t know how to shoot; her mind was preoccupied with telling him about the divorce. She feared that if she delayed, she might see him with his mistress and feel disgusted.

But the next moment, Fu Yancheng grabbed her hand and headed toward the shooting range. She felt awkward and tried to pull away, glancing at Munashi, who encouraged her with a thumbs-up gesture. She sighed in helplessness.

“Brother Zhaobei, look how affectionate sister and brother-in-law are,” Gu Mo tugged at Lu Zhaobei’s arm. Since seeing his sister, Lu Zhaobei’s gaze had been fixed entirely on her.

Realizing he was losing control, Lu Zhaobei wrapped his arms around Gu Mo’s waist and kissed her, but his eyes remained on Gu Li.

Fu Yancheng brought her to the shooting range and handed her protective goggles. Seeing her hesitate, he unusually offered to help put them on. The intimate gesture made Gu Li uneasy, and she resisted, pressing his hands down and urgently saying, “Mr. Fu, I have something to tell you.”

“Shoot one round with me, then I’ll give you time, okay?” His voice was irresistibly hypnotic, making refusal impossible.

Helpless and trapped, Gu Li felt she couldn’t avoid it and reluctantly agreed to accompany him for that one shot.

She put on the goggles and took the gun he handed her. It was heavy, and she frowned. Suddenly, his warm breath was close, the intimate proximity making her uncomfortable. Instinctively, she wanted to push him away.

“I’ll teach you,” he said softly and patiently above her head.

Gu Li looked up at him, meeting his dark, compelling eyes that seemed to draw her in like a poppy’s allure—irresistible yet potentially perilous.

This kind of man was beyond her control.

Bang!

The shot was powerful; the recoil sent a tingling numbness to her hands. If Fu Yancheng hadn’t supported her hands, she might have been injured.

The bullet hit the bullseye. His warm, large hands gave her an immense sense of security.

“You have great talent,” he praised, his voice laced with a hint of intimacy.

Gu Li was distracted and didn’t notice the intensity in his gaze; her thoughts were focused on how to tell him about the divorce.

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause and cheers, soon surrounding them with flattery.

“Mr. Fu, you and Miss Gu are truly a perfect match. I’ve never seen such synchronicity.”

“Exactly, I’ve never seen a shot hit the target so perfectly. Impressive.”

“Right, and with Miss Gu’s involvement, you’d think you two were married, given the harmony.”

The flattery evidently pleased Fu Yancheng. He nodded, put the gun away, lit a cigarette, and fixed his dark eyes on Gu Li. A faint smile curved his lips as he said calmly, “Dr. Gu and I just registered our marriage.”

A collective gasp swept through the crowd; everyone was stunned by his sudden announcement.

Gu Li herself froze in place—he had publicly declared their relationship?

She had been planning to divorce him, yet he announced their marriage in front of everyone, catching her completely off guard.

“Excuse me, I need to use the restroom,” Gu Li said, pushing through the crowd. The looks she received were mixed with jealousy, envy, pity, and sympathy, but she didn’t care. Her sole focus was to get away and finalize the divorce.

The cold water splashing on her face eased the dizzy, surreal feeling she had just experienced.

Suddenly, a force she couldn’t defend against clamped around her neck. Before she could react, she was pressed against the washbasin. She tried to push his hand away, but couldn’t even voice a sound.

It was Lu Zhaobei.

His dark, sinister face filled her vision. Terrified, she struggled against his grip.

“Gu Li, marrying Fu Yancheng won’t bring you happiness. He’s sterile and near death, and he tortures his wives. Can you endure that?” Lu Zhaobei sneered, mocking her ignorance.

Seizing a breath, Gu Li forced out, “This is my business, none of yours. Let... go of me!”

Lu Zhaobei snorted coldly, staring at her stunningly beautiful face. “He tortures his wives by driving them to death. Gu Li, you used to avoid even a kiss from me. Can you endure his twisted ways of torturing your body?”

“I thought that once I was married, I could make you my mistress and treat you well. Didn’t expect you to climb onto Fu Yancheng’s arm, thinking he’s richer than me.”

“Bitch!”

Gu Li spat disdainfully, “Lu Zhaobei, you’re disgusting.”

She truly hadn’t expected his thoughts to be so vile—shameless to the extreme.

Lu Zhaobei, furious, tried to strangle her, but just as he was about to exert force, his arm was pinned down by another.

He turned with a frown.

“Lu Zhaobei, have you thought about the consequences?”

Fu Yancheng.

Fu Yancheng forcibly pried Lu Zhaobei’s hand loose. Lu Zhaobei took a step back, and Gu Li was released. Fu Yancheng caught her collapsing body, breathing heavily.

He draped his suit jacket over Gu Li, took a drag from his cigarette, then crushed it out. He exhaled smoke in great puffs. The smoke obscured his expression, but his cold, commanding aura intimidated Lu Zhaobei into retreat.

“Brother Zhaobei!”

“Li Li!”

The Mu siblings and Gu Mo hurried over. Mu Li, seeing the red marks on Gu Li’s neck while she was in Fu Yancheng’s arms, was furious and ready to confront Lu Zhaobei.

“Lu Zhaobei, if you’ve got the guts, come find me. I won’t hold back, and I’m not a Mu anymore.”

Mu Tan quickly held back his sister, awkward and silent.

The big boss was here; it wasn’t their turn to act.

Gu Mo glanced at Gu Li and then at Lu Zhaobei, understanding the situation. With Fu Yancheng present, she dared not intervene. The man who had tormented her in her past life was not someone she could confront, nor could she scold Gu Li.

Gu Mo pulled Lu Zhaobei away without a word of apology. Mu Li cursed a few times as she looked at the red marks on Gu Li’s neck.

Fu Yancheng held Gu Li and gracefully nodded to the Mu siblings before turning and leaving.

He gently placed her in the car. The driver, sensing something amiss, immediately lowered the partition, obeying the unspoken rule of “see no evil.”

Fu Yancheng rolled down the window, letting cold wind stream in, waking Gu Li up—it was deliberate.

He was angry.

Fu Yancheng kept smoking, one cigarette after another. The backseat was filled with smoke, the air icy and obscure. No one could discern what this man was thinking.

“Have you been with him?”
