Chapter Eleven: Sister, why are you here?

Night had fallen, a slender crescent moon hung low in the sky. Sparse starlight dotted the deep expanse above. Su Xingyu stood outside Lin Fan’s small courtyard. She wore a pale purple long dress, indistinguishable from Su Xingyue’s usual attire. Even those who spent every day with them could not tell Su Xingyu apart from Su Xingyue at a glance.
Taking a deep breath, she whispered to herself, “Sister, Mother, I want to see for myself what is so extraordinary about Lin Fan that you both remain silent about him.”
A few days earlier, Su Xingyue and Su Xingyu had gone together to check if their mother, Su Mei, had broken through the Foundation Establishment stage. Unexpectedly, they discovered signs of her falling into demonic deviation!
The situation was critical. The two sisters made an immediate decision to act separately. Su Xingyue came to find Lin Fan, while Su Xingyu rushed to the clan’s treasure pavilion to seek a relic capable of countering the heart demon.
Anxious and hurried, Su Xingyu selected the treasure at the fastest speed and returned to her mother’s secluded cultivation chamber. But upon arrival, she heard intimate sounds emanating from the room where her mother was breaking through, causing her to freeze on the spot.
She did not enter rashly. Later, she witnessed her sister leaving the chamber with an unconscious man in tow. That man was Lin Fan.
For the past two days, Su Xingyu had been trying to understand what had truly happened — how could her mother’s demonic deviation coincide with a smooth breakthrough? Yet Su Xingyue and Su Mei refused to utter a single word, sealing the matter in silence.
This only deepened Su Xingyu’s curiosity!
So she disguised herself as her sister and came here to uncover the truth.
Pushing open the courtyard gate, she found the yard lively, several female cultivators playing and teasing each other.
Seeing the familiar faces, her pupils contracted slightly, for she knew them all well. Two of them were especially familiar, and if she remembered correctly, their talents were poor, stuck at bottlenecks unable to break through. Yet now, they seemed to have all advanced.
“It appears Mother’s ability to resist the heart demon and breakthrough the Foundation Establishment stage has much to do with Lin Fan!” Su Xingyu thought silently.
“Greetings... greetings, Clan Leader.” Su Yun and the others quickly stifled their laughter and respectfully bowed forward.
Su Xingyu breathed a sigh of relief; their behavior showed no suspicion of her impersonation.
She waved her hand, “Where is Lin Fan?”
“Young Master, the Clan Leader has arrived...” Su Fei called toward the main house.
Moments later, Lin Fan appeared, jogging swiftly to Su Xingyu and taking her delicate hand in his. “Sister, you’re here! Come inside quickly!”

Lin Fan’s grip on Su Xingyu’s hand sent a jolt through her body, as if electrified.
Allowing him to lead her, they walked into the house together. The maids wisely refrained from following, instead covering their faces to giggle softly. “The Clan Leader and Young Master really suit each other.”
“Oh my, looks like tonight we sisters won’t have to attend the Young Master.”
...
The two entered the room, one following the other.
Su Xingyu looked around, examining the furnishings. She freed her hand from Lin Fan’s grip and sat on the grand official’s chair.
Lin Fan sat down beside her, casually taking hold of her soft, fair hand again.
To avoid suspicion, she did not pull away, letting him hold it.
“Sister, how is Mother now?” Lin Fan asked with concern.
“I only remember helping Mother break through that day. After that, I fainted and don’t recall anything else.”
What had happened that night was indeed somewhat embarrassing; Lin Fan had to pretend he didn’t remember.
Hearing this, Su Xingyu’s heart skipped a beat, filled with questions about how Lin Fan had helped achieve the breakthrough. But soon, she pieced it together.
After Su Xingyue’s dual cultivation with Lin Fan, she successfully advanced.
Though Su Mei’s chamber was off-limits, the sounds from within had revealed everything.
According to Su Xingyu’s understanding of the cultivation world, if a breakthrough through dual cultivation was possible, Lin Fan must possess the legendary special constitution.
With this realization, Su Xingyu composed herself. “Mother fell into demonic deviation but fortunately broke through Foundation Establishment. After these past two days, she is no longer impeded.”
“That’s wonderful news.” Lin Fan’s face lit up with joy.
“Sister hasn’t come to see me these days; I’ve missed you terribly.” Lin Fan leaned closer, teasing playfully.
Su Xingyu’s body stiffened instantly.
Lin Fan buried his head in her neck, gently inhaling her fragrance.
“Sister, it’s getting late. How about we rest now?”
Su Xingyu’s heart tightened. She had been stuck at the eighth level of Qi Refining for two years, unable to advance. If she followed Lin Fan’s suggestion, perhaps tonight she could break through the bottleneck.
After hesitation, Su Xingyu declined, “Husband, Mother’s health hasn’t fully recovered yet. I need to return to care for her tonight. I only came to check on you.”
“Glad to hear you’re well. With so many maids attending to you outside, I can rest easy.”
Saying this, she rose to leave.
But Lin Fan gently tugged her hand, pulling her into his embrace.
“Sister, don’t misunderstand. I keep those maids around only because I’m bored. My heart belongs solely to you.”

Su Xingyu met Lin Fan’s sincere gaze and said, “Alright!”
Then she broke free from his hold and dashed out of the courtyard like the wind.
Watching her disappear, Lin Fan scratched his head, “Why does Su Xingyue seem so strange tonight?”
He shook his head and dismissed the thought. After all, women’s hearts are unfathomable; if one could figure them out, that would be abnormal.
Checking the time, Lin Fan closed the door and climbed onto the bed.
From his bosom, he took out an aged beast-hide scroll—The Eternal Spring Method.
He studied it carefully, slowly comprehending that this cultivation method only advanced one to the twelfth level of Qi Refining.
The practice was not difficult, being a basic technique.
After reading it twice, Lin Fan sat cross-legged on the bed, hands resting on his knees.
“Step one: Through a specific breathing technique, absorb the spiritual energy from heaven and earth, converting it into one’s own spiritual power.”
“For those with good aptitude, it takes only one or two days to sense the spiritual energy of heaven and earth; for those less gifted, it may take ten or fifteen days.”
“But I am a special case,” he murmured. “I haven’t cultivated yet, but thanks to the system’s nourishment, spiritual power has already manifested within me!”
He closed his eyes and began to sense the spiritual power within.
After a moment, Lin Fan furrowed his brow, a delighted smile breaking across his face.
He felt the spiritual power inside; unlike other cultivators who had to absorb spiritual energy from the air and refine it into their own power, he could directly store the system-fed energy as his cultivation base.
Taking a deep breath, he attempted to guide the spiritual power to his dantian.
The spiritual power flowed gently through his meridians like a serene stream.
Lin Fan carefully controlled its path, fearing any mistakes.
Gradually, the spiritual power gathered in the dantian, forming a small whirlpool.
“Boom!”
A soft sound echoed inside him.
He felt as if a certain constraint had been shattered.
A powerful force surged forth from the dantian, coursing through his entire body.
Lin Fan knew he had successfully broken through to the first level of Qi Refining.
“Unfortunately, the system-fed spiritual power was a bit scarce, only enough for me to break into the first level before it was depleted.”
“Looks like I need to push them harder to cultivate!”
“Only when their cultivation improves can I receive more nourishment!”
He muttered to himself, a look of excitement spreading across his face.
